3. Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning (AP(E)L)

AP(E)L is the award of credits on the basis of demonstrated learning that has occurred at some time in the past. It is stands for Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning. A maximum of 120 credits can be considered for AP(E)L. A maximum time limit of 5 years applies between the original award and consideration of AP(E)L. For APL to be awarded, you will need to demonstrate that the learning outcomes and credit values of your previous certificated courses map on to the learning outcomes of equivalent modules on the LKH BA programme. For APEL to be awarded, you will need to demonstrate through a portfolio of evidence that your prior experiential learning is broadly equivalent to the learning outcomes that would be assessed through the relevant course unit(s) on the BA programme. You will need to supply your transcript, previous course syllabus and module outlines, (or for APEL, a portfolio of evidence of your prior experiential learning) for consideration by the BA programme committee. These documents can be supplied with this application form or at a later stage but AP(E)L cannot be awarded without them. (See the separate AP(E)L guidelines for more information.)

If you have previously studied theology elsewhere and wish to apply for AP(E)L, please give details here of any AP(E)L you wish to request, including details of your prior learning and the number of credits you are seeking AP(E)L for. Please also note any documentation you have provided with this application form. Further details or documentation may be requested at interview and/or after the committee has met, as appropriate.

4. Proficiency in English Language (International Students)

Studying theology demands a good knowledge of the English language.

To demonstrate their proficiency in academic English for study on undergraduate degree courses, the UK Visas and Immigration department (UKVI) requires that international applicants for undergraduate degrees who need a Tier 4 visa, and who come from countries not on the UKVI’s recognised list of Anglophone countries, have a band score of B2 from a UKVI-recognised English test, or they have a full BA degree awarded by a recognised institution in an Anglophone country on the UKVI’s list. The B2 band score equates to an IELTS score of 5.5 in all categories of the test (or the equivalent score from an alternative recognised test). However, we recommend an IELTS score of 6.5 because of the amount of reading and writing required for this degree as a Humanities subject.

Please note that India, Pakistan and Nigeria are not regarded as English speaking by the UKVI.

If you are from a country which is not on the UKVI’s list of Anglophone countries, please give details in the table below of an English language test result which you have obtained through one of the UKVI’s recognised tests, and which meets the above requirements, or of a degree you have obtained from an Anglophone country.

Please enclose evidence of your test results (or a copy of your degree certificate from a recognised English-speaking country) to demonstrate that you fulfil this requirement.
