the International Association of Universities of the Third Age
We welcome membership applications from all U3As and from organisations with the same objectives, from federations of U3As, whether at local, regional or national level, and from individuals who wish to involve themselves with international U3A activity. Our main aims and the application process are described below.
The principle objectives of the International Association of Universities of the Third Age (IAUTA) are:-
- to federate the Universities of the Third Age (U3As) that now exist all over the world and to include other organisations that may have different names but who subscribe to the same objectives.
- to constitute, with the support of Universities around the world, an international framework of a lifelong educational nature and this will also be concerned with research by, with and for the older generation.
- to develop the exchange of knowledge that the older generation achieves for the benefit of society as a whole through congresses, meetings, workshops, publications and communication through the website and the wider use of the world-wide-web.
The scope of these activities is described in the constitution that is available on our website at http://www.aiu3a.com/ where information on current and planned activities is also available.
Scale of Membership Fees
The current annual contributions are:
· U3As – 0.175€ for each member of the U3A with a minimum of 175€ and a maximum of 1750€
Federations of U3As - A similar scale
· Individual member - 25€
Application Process
Applications should be sent to Bérengère Delli at our Paris office who will put the application before the Governing Board and liaise with the applicant over the details of the application and the payment of the annual contribution. Her address is:

Reminder of the conditions of membership:
On applying for membership of IAUTA, your U3A commits itself:
- to aim to send a delegate and students to the General Assembly and Congress of IAUTA, which are currently planned to occur every two years.
- to participate in the elections to the Governing Board every two years, directly or by proxy.
- make known all the information about these activities to the students.
- to inform IAUTA of the programmes and activities of your U3A.
- to acquaint the secretariat of IAUTA of any changes to the official character of your U3A.
- to supply the specified amount of the annual fee for membership of IAUTA for each calendar year which is due by 31st March of that year. (See below for advice on the amount and method of payment)

- become a individual member entitled to attend the General Assembly and Congress of IAUTA, which are currently planned to occur every two years, where you would have a consultative voice but no vote.
- will be informed about IAUTA activities by newsletter and through the website.
- should encourage the international exchange of information about U3As between members and with IAUTA where appropriate.
- should acquaint the secretariat of IAUTA of any changes to the official character of your U3A.
- should supply the specified amount of the annual fee for membership of IAUTA for each calendar year which is due by 31st March of that year. (See below for advice on the amount and method of payment)
