In no more than one page (or less), walk us through all stages of planning an event of your choice, from the design of the concept, advertising, budgeting, space management, and logistics, to execution and wind-up. Highlight any issues that might be of particular concern and/or relevance. Expect that 30-50 people will attend.
The following is a series of situations that you could expect to encounter when serving on the residence life team at Graduate House. Please answer the questions at the end of each scenario for the position(s) to which you have applied. Each answer should be ½ to 1 page in length. Keep in mind that you are not expected to completely solve each of these problems, and can refer to resources within Graduate House and/or the University of Toronto.

5. It is mid-July, and several residents of a suite email you to complain that their suitemate, Julie, insists that the air conditioning in the suite be turned off at night because she gets too cold.The other suitemates complain that without the air conditioning on, the suite gets too hot at night to sleep comfortably.The suitemates claim that Julie refuses to even meet with them to discuss the situation, and instead spends most of her time in her bedroom with the door closed. They are looking for your advice.
What are some of issues to consider in this situation? What strategies would you use in attempting to resolve this problem? What would be your next steps?

6. Two students approach you in regards to an upcoming movie night. They are both international students and have recently arrived at Grad House for the first time. The students are concerned that the movie has themes that make them uncomfortable and they don’t think the movie should be shown in residence.
What are the issues to consider in this situation? How would you handle this request?

7. As you’re advertising an upcoming event by chatting to residents in the lobby, you meet two students for the first time. You welcome them to the building, assuming they are new residents, as you have never seen them at events. They explain they have actually lived in the building for over a year, but feel too “intimidated” by the group of regular residents at events to come to any. They explain that the group of residents who always come to the events only talk to each other at events and in the common room, and this makes them feel unwelcome. When you assure these residents that everyone is welcome to come to events, and there are new residents moving in and attending events all the time, they reply that they are “too busy with school anyways”.
What are the issues to consider in this situation? How would you respond to the situation? What programming strategies could you use to respond?
