Three $5,000 scholarships are being offered to Montville* resident high school senior students intending to further their education in the field of humanities (such as history, law, literature, performing and visual arts, philosophy, language, or religion). Important factors are character, scholastic records, and significant financial need.

Montville residents who previously graduated and remain in college with a satisfactory academic record can reapply for the Sheehan Scholarship

Applications are available from Mrs. Bedard, MHS Director of School Counseling and Mrs. Ingoglia in the Career Center or by visiting: .

Three letters of recommendation are required (two from teachers) along with an essay and financial need statement.

*(Montville Residents who attend Montville High School and/or other institutions or who are home school.)

All materials are due no later than April 1, 2017.

PART 2. REQUIREMENTS

1.Essay: Please submit a five hundred (500) word or less essay on your reasons for selecting to continue your education in the field of humanities. Please indicate how you feel that the study of humanities will prepare you to become a productive and contributing citizen.

2.References: Please provide three (3) letters of reference reflecting your interest and involvement in the study of the human condition. A minimum of two (2) of the letters should be from teachers who have taught you during your junior or senior years.

3.GPA/Class Rank: Provide the following information from your Guidance Counselor:

a.Information on GPA or Class Rank.

b.Copy of academic transcript.

4.Statement of Financial Need: Please include a statement in one hundred (100) words or less, indicating how, the Sheehan Family Trust Scholarship will allow you to continue your post-secondary education which would otherwise not be possible.

5.The completed application and associated documents must be submitted
by April 1, 2017.
