Application Guide to Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students

Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship for International Student (hereinafter referred to as Scholarship) has been granted to international students since 2005. It is established to fund distinctive prospective international students to pursue bachelor’s or above degree levels in higher educational institutions in Shanghai. University of Shanghai for Science and Technology is one of the higher educational institutions appointed by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission to deal with scholarship application, review, admission and education of international students.

1.  Categories and Details

Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students is offered at three levels: Class A, Class B and Class C.

Class A (Full Scholarship) is established to fund excellent prospective students applying for postgraduate programs in Shanghai. The scholarship includes: exemption of application fee, exemption of tuition, Comprehensive Medical Insurance coverage for free, basic textbook for free, and monthly living allowance.

Class B (Partial Scholarship) is established to fund excellent prospective students applying for undergraduate or above leveled degree programs in Shanghai. The scholarship includes: exemption of application fee, exemption of tuition, and basic textbook for free. The winners will have to purchase Comprehensive Medical Insurance and undertake other expenses by themselves.

Class C (Excellent Student Award) is established to encourage the currently enrolled excellent international students who are pursuing long-term study at higher educational institutions in Shanghai. The winners will receive a one-off scholarship in an academic year.

2.  Eligibility

(1)  Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.

(2)  Educational Background and Age Limit

-Applicants of bachelor’s programs must have graduated from senior high school and under the age of 25 (applicable to Type B or Type C scholarship only).

-Applicants of master’s programs must have obtained bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.

-Applicants of doctoral programs must have obtained master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

(3) Outstanding in academic performance.

(4) Meeting the language requirement of the prospective degree program.

(5) Meeting the entry requirements of the applied university and program.

(6) Not being awarded any other Chinese government scholarships at the same time.
