2016 Black Hawk County 4-H and FFA Fair Queen and King Contest Rules

  1. Each contestant must be at least 16 years of age and not more than 21 years of age on August 13, 2016.
  2. Contestants must never have been married or have had children.
  3. BlackHawkCounty fair queen/king must reside in BlackHawkCounty.
  4. Each contestant must be an active member of at least one service organization in his/her community (not limited to 4-H or FFA) and have participated in the BlackHawkCounty 4-H/FFA Fair.
  5. In the event the county king/queen is unable to participate, alternates will be considered in order of selection.
  6. Professional models are not eligible to compete.
  7. It is the responsibility of the queen representing the county to make her own arrangements for transportation to and from the Iowa State Fair queen competition in Des Moines.
  8. The county queen will be the guest of the Iowa State Fair Tuesday, August 9through the time of crowning Saturday afternoon, August 13.
  9. Judging will be based on the following: personality, attitude, appearance and awareness, leadership and citizenship – contribution to the community, overall appearance, charm, and poise.
  10. Appropriate dress for interviews will be covered in a letter following application.
  11. Personal interviews are mandatory and will be held the afternoon of June 26 at Electric Park in Waterloo (a follow-up letter will be mailed to each candidate).
  12. Candidates must attend the Black Hawk County Fair opening night (July 20, 2016) during which the coronation will be held.
  13. Any contestant who has competed at an Iowa State Fair final may not compete again.
