Job Description & Duties

Opening for 1 Peer Advisor position. As an International Relations (IR) Peer Advisor, your main job is to act as a liaison between students and the Program in International Relations in order to promote and maintain the undergraduate major. This includes informing current and prospective majors about the IR program; holding office hours to meet with prospective and current students; responding to general email inquiries; representing the Program at majors fairs/Admit Weekend and other events; assisting with planning ad hoc events; assisting with website updates and social media presence; and other projects/administrative tasks as needed. You will work closely with the Program Manager and prospective/ newly declared majors in order to help students find an advisor, create their course plan, and develop and map-out their primary/secondary specializations. Training will be provided. We are seeking to fill one peer advisor position for a rising junior in 2015-2016.

Hours

The Undergraduate Peer Advisor position requires approximately 50 hours per quarter (a maximum of 5 hours per week), excluding finals week. There will be 2 advisors (one senior and one junior) and the hours will be coordinated during business hours to avoid overlap with each other. Work space has been assigned in the 2nd floor of Encina Hall West.

Compensation

$12 per hour for a maximum of 50 hours per quarter

Qualifications

-  must be a declared IR major

-  demonstrate extensive knowledge/familiarity with the program

-  ability to maintain confidentiality

-  excellent communication and interpersonal skills

-  organized, dependable, and responsible

-  be at the junior level for the 2015-2016 academic year

-  must be able to commit approximately 5 hours per week, Mon-Fri between the hours of 8am-5pm, and be flexible so that the hours do not overlap with other advisors
