Application for IADVL KN Orations

Introduction:

Prof Dr. Shivakumar and Prof Dr.Rajendran Oration and Prof. Dr. J N Shetty Oration are the two prestigious orations given by IADVL Karnataka branch every year during CUTICON KN. Member shall apply with the topic and a brief note on his/her contribution/publications to the field of his topic. But while considering them, both academic achievement and their contribution to IADVL/IADVL KN will be considered. The topic to be presented shall be based on the publication work in an indexed journal. Both orations carry the same prestige and are not ranked. Any oration should be given only once to a person and more than one oration should not be given to the same person. Every year by rotation, one oration will be selected by EC and another oration will be selected after calling application/nomination. These selection process will be on alternate basis between both the orations. Last date to apply for oration is August 15th 2017.

Standard Operative Procedure for orations

  1. The potential candidates can apply individually, or nominated by Sister society or zonal coordinator through prescribed format within the stipulated date
  2. One oration is awarded through application and another by nominations which will be rotated every year.
  3. Oration awarded to IADVL members from outside Karnataka is through nominations. For IADVL KN members oration is awarded through applications
  4. Applications should be submitted to the Honorary General Secretary, IADVL academy chairperson & IADVL Academy convener, accompanied by a summary of approximately 1000 words, if not the full oration
  5. The completed applications or nominations fulfilling all the criteria for the respective oration will be considered
  6. To ensure the transparency and impartiality, double blind procedure is followed. The applications will be processed by the Convener of the academy and identity number will be allotted to each application. Then the details of the candidates without revealing their identity will be submitted to the Academy Coordinator for Orations
  7. At least three referees selected randomly for each category of Orations should evaluate the applications
  8. Each member of Academy will give the scorein evaluation formatand submit to the convener
  9. Average score will be taken as final score for the candidate
  10. The candidate with highest score will be selected for the award
  11. Oration for specific area of interest is given first priority.
  12. Any oration should be given only once to a person and more than one oration should not be given to the same person
  13. The Academy should attempt awarding all the two orations unless there are very valid reasons
  14. If an oration has to be withheld, it should rotate so that the same one is not withheld every time

Criteria and Guidelines for orations

  1. The candidate should be a Life member of IADVL
  2. The candidate should have at least 10 years of experience in specialty after passing Diploma/Degree/DNB
  3. At least two publications on the subject preferably in pubmedCentralindexed journals as first or second author. In case of multidisciplinary or multicentric studies, any authorship is acceptable provided the candidate is the first or second author from the discipline or study centre respectively.
  4. At least two presentations (paper/ poster/invited lecture) on the subject in regional, national or international conferences
  5. In case of broad subject areas like pediatric dermatology, dermatosurgery, infectious diseases etc., consistent publications and/or presentations in the subject area at least for a period of more than five years
  6. Chapters on subject in standard textbooks or monograph on subject (optional)
  7. The candidate has been recognized as an authority in the subject by peers in case of lack of desirable number of publications and/or presentations

Note: First four criteria are mandatory for oration on specific subject of interest; first, second and fifth criteria are mandatory for oration on broad subject of interest; in extraordinary situation, seventh criterion can be considered to select the candidate.
