2017-2018 Grant Applications

General Instructions

This application covers four service areas. You may apply in all four areas or select which are most suitable for your organization. Those areas include: Request for Large Funds from our annual special project, Request for Small Funds from our “Twice is Nice” Thrift Store and General Fundraiser Campaign, Request for Volunteers, and a Request for Monthly Service Collections.

YOUR COMPLETED PACKET SHOULD INCLUDE AN ELECTRONIC COPY OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Completed application of needs requested, including General Agency Information Form.
  • Current List of agency's Board of Directors.
  • Letter of IRS Determination of Tax-Exempt Status 501 (c)(3)- If you do not have a 501 (c)(3) status, the JWL Board may require further information.
  • Year-End Statement of Activity/Current Operating Budget.
  • List of Partner Organizations/ Previous Organization Names (if applicable).

Terms and Conditions

1.OUR MISSION STATEMENT:

All grant requests must meet the following JWL Mission Statement. In completing this application, please ask yourself on each grant, “Does this request meet the following bolded JWL Mission Statement?”

The Junior Welfare League is an organization of volunteers committed to serving and improving the quality of life for people living in York County and surrounding areas. We are dedicated to focusing on advocacy, health, education and awareness of issues for those in our community. Our purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Requests which do not comply with the mission statement will not be considered. All decisions regarding compliance with the mission statement are made in the sole discretion of the JWL Board and are final.

Requests for funds for general operating items, including, without limitation, requests for funds to pay salaries and/or hire employees, andcontributions to Capital Campaigns are generally considered not to comply with the mission statement and will not be considered without prior, express, written, consent from the JWL Board.

2.NOTIFICATION TO RECIPIENTS

Each agency that has applied for funds, volunteers, and/or monthly collection items will be notified in June of the decision of what they have been awarded for the 2017-2018year.

3.AWARD PROCESS

For individuals receiving grants, said grants will be distributed as follows, subject to any terms and conditions set forth below:

a. Large Funds

Grants for Large Funds will be awarded during the next League year, in the Spring of 2018. Large grant funds are to be held in trust by the agency pending use of the funds for the express purpose awarded and requested in this application.

Should an agency awarded large funds desire to utilize the funds for a different purpose other than that which is expressly requested in this application, written consent must first be obtained from the JWL. JWL reserves the right to insist upon strict compliance with the request set forth in this application and decisions for approval regarding changes for use in the funds will be made in the JWL’s sole discretion.

All funds awarded must be used within one year from date of distribution or returned to the JWL.

b. Small Funds

Grants for Small Funds will be awarded during the current League year, in Spring 2017. Small grant funds are to be held in trust by the agency pending use of the funds for the express purpose awarded and requested in this application.

Should an agency awarded small funds desire to utilize the funds for a different purpose other than that which is expressly requested in this application, written consent must first be obtained from the JWL. c. Service Volunteers

Volunteers will be assigned in the late spring and you will be notified of their names, contact information and the number of hours they are required to serve. Service placements are effective from June 2017 - April 2018.

We request that you be as organized as possible when working with our members. Please be ready to get them to work at their scheduled time. This will allow us to be as productive as possible and meet your needs as fully as we can. Please respect that we are a completely volunteer service organization and most of us have full-time jobs and families in addition to our commitment to the JWL.

d. Monthly Collections

Agencies awarded monthly collection items will be notified in summer 2017 of the award. Shortly thereafter, agencies will be contacted by phone or e-mail concerning the month they have been assigned. For further information, see below.

JWL 2017-2018 Grant Application

Request for Large Funds

$5,000 Minimum

Each year the Junior Welfare League holds one large special project fundraiser. In the past, this has included such events as Community Yard Sale, Golf Tournaments, and the Gobble Wobble race. The proceeds from these events are awarded each year to one or more of our approved Service Agencies for various programs and or program-related purchases. The funds for this application will be awarded in the spring of 2018.

If your group wishes to apply, please complete the following questions, in addition to the requirements on the Cover Letter, and the General Agency Information Form. We currently do not fund General Operating Items or contributions to Capital Campaigns without Board Approval. Please check with the Service Committee @ if you have questions. Request for Large Funds

The Junior Welfare League operates the Twice Is Nice thrift store in Rock Hill and sponsors a General Fundraising Campaign. At the end of each League year, the monies collected are divided between area Service Agencies requesting what we term “small fund” requests. The funds for this application will be awarded in the spring of 2017. These requests are required to be less than $5000.00.

If your agency would like to be considered, please complete the following information and return with your completed package. These requests do not fund Capital Campaigns or General Operating Items unless approved by our Board.

2017-2018 JWL Grant Application

Request for Monthly Service Collection

The Junior Welfare League will select one agency per meeting from July 2017- April 2018 for an agency collection. The JWL General Membership will be notified as to the needs of the chosen agency each month. A representative from the Service Committee will then deliver these items to your agency if you are selected. We may also request that a representative from your agency attend and address the general membership as to how these collections are utilized.

JWL 2017-2018 Grant Application

Request for Volunteers

The Junior Welfare League will select agencies for which our General Membership will complete between 5-10 service hours (per member) each JWL calendar year. This runs from June 2017-April 2018.

If your agency would like to be considered for JWL volunteers, please complete the following information and return with your completed package. Please be as specific as possible as the JWL has a limited number of members and in the event your organization is awarded volunteers, the information below will assist the JWL in determining which members would best suit your needs.
