“Introduction to Energy Efficiency and Energy Auditing”

Hotel Centrum, Prizren

March 13-15, 2018

Background: Funded by a grant from the Transformational Leadership Program–Scholarships and Partnerships, Arizona State University (ASU) has entered into partnership with the University of Prishtina Center for Energy and Sustainability (CES) to advance research and training related to energy efficiency. Toward that end, ASU and CES are pleased to announce the opening of applications for a special international seminar to be held in Prizren, March 13-15, “Introduction to Energy Efficiency and Energy Auditing.”

Seminar Goals. The goal of the seminar will be to introduce the practice of energy auditing of buildings to assure greater energy efficiency and improved indoor air quality. The seminar will also serve as a practical platform for future training of professional energy auditors. Studies have shown that more than a quarter of all energy used in Kosovo buildings is wasted or lost, owing in part to inefficient appliances, inadequate insulation, and poor construction. The March seminar in Prizren will demonstrate how energy auditing and modern retrofitting of buildings can fundamentally transform energy efficiency in Kosovo.

International Seminar Presenter. The seminar will be led by Paul Francisco, Senior Coordinator of Indoor Climate Research & Training (ICRT) at the Illinois Applied Research Institute, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. ICRT is a leading training unit for energy auditors in the U.S. Francisco brings more than 20 years of experience in the field, with a research focus on the intersection of energy efficiency and indoor air quality. He currently chairs the standards committee of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-conditioning Engineers, and is a certified trainer for BPI (Building Performance Institute), the premier U.S. credentialing and standards agency for home performance professionals.

Who is Eligible to Participate, and How Do I Apply? ASU and the University of Prishtina Center for Energy and Sustainability encourage applications from a broad range of interdisciplinary university faculty members and energy sector specialists interested in energy studies and energy efficiency. Applicants with advanced degrees, expertise, and experience related to the analysis of buildings, architecture, thermodynamics, and electrical/heating systems are especially encouraged to apply. The seminar, which will be conducted in English with consecutive Albanian translation, will be limited to fifteen participants. Lodging at the Hotel Centrum will be provided by ASU for the evenings of March 13 and 14. Finalists will be invited for in-person interviews, which will be conducted on March 10. Applicants must submit a completed copy of the application form (see reverse side) with the 150-word paragraph identifying the nature of their interest in the field of energy studies, along with a current CV.
