4-H Youth Representatives

Two Illinois 4-H members will be selected each year to represent the Illinois 4-H program on the Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB) Youth Education Committee. The Youth Education Committee provides support for various 4-H and FFA programs throughout the year. The 4-H representatives will assist with the planning, implementing, and evaluation of these various programs. The 1-year term runs from August 1 through July 31.

The time commitment varies throughout the year. 4-H representatives must be able to be excused from school (high school or college) in order to actively participate in the meetings and activities. These include, but may not be limited to: (More definite dates will be posted as they come available.)

Youth Education Committee Orientation – late August(1 day in Bloomington)

Youth Education Committee Meetings -- 1-day meetings usually held in late August

(mentioned above), November, January, March & April

IFB Annual Meeting – Dec. 3-6, 2011 in Chicago (Required attendance for at least

Dec. 3-4)

IFB Young Leader Conference –Usually weekend in February in Springfield

(Optional attendance)

IFB & Affiliates Youth Conference – Sunday through Tuesday, March or April, 2012

(Required attendance)

Illinois FFA Convention – Tentative date, June 6 or 13, 2012 (For committee

recognition)

IFB Heritage and Cooperative Tour to Washington, D.C. – Tentative dates,

June 24-29, 2012(Serve as Youth Coordinators)

Representatives are selected via application. 4-H members (or recent alumni) must be between the ages of 17-19 in order to apply. Criteria include: 4-H member’s interest and experience in agricultural topics; 4-H leadership experiences; age; dependability; and geographical location within Illinois. We look for two representatives from different areas of the state. Previous selection as a 4-H LCP winner and/or attendance at the Premier 20 Leadership Conference is preferred, but not required.

Applications and recommendation letter(s) are due to the State 4-H Office postmarked by Monday, June 13, 2011.

As an applicant to this committee, I understand that I am making a commitment to attend the meetings and events sponsored by this group to represent the Illinois 4-H program. I must be able to be released from school classes in order to attend the meetings for this group. I also have available transportation to meetings/events in Bloomington, Springfield, Champaign, and Chicago.
