NO-BE-BO-SCO SPECIAL TREK OPTION

CNJC UNDAUNTED COURAGE Special Trek, April 30 - May 1, 2004

There will be a special hiking trek option for Boy Scouts attending the CNJC Undaunted Courage Camporee to stay at Camp NoBeBoSco on Friday night and hike along the Appalachian Trail to Yards Creek Scout Reservation (YCSR) on Saturday. This hike is about seven miles, so hikers will be able to participate in both the trek and the camporee activities at YCSR. There will be an extra charge of $6.00 for this trek in addition to the basic camporee fee. See the companion "Boy Scout Troop Registration Form" for registration details. The Registration Deadline is Friday, March 12, 2004.

Please note that registration is by troops for this option. Each troop must supply the required adult leadership for the crew or crews they will have participating in the NoBeBoSco Special Trek. Troops will be permitted to group together for a combined effort, if desired. It is recommended that crews consist of 6-10 youth members and 2 adult members.

Trekkers will only need to carry light personal gear on their trek. On Saturday morning, buses and other vehicles will be provided to transport sleeping bags, tents, etc., from NoBeBoSco to YCSR, or you can put your extra gear in your own vehicles. On Saturday, buses will also be provided to shuttle drivers from YCSR back to No-Be-Bo-Sco to pick up their vehicles, or you can arrange with other members of your troop to retrieve your vehicles and equipment.

On Friday, trek participants should go directly to Camp NoBeBoSco. It is recommended that you eat dinner beforehand and plan on a no-cook breakfast (bagels, muffins, breakfast bars, etc) for Saturday morning. In following this plan, you would avoid having to transport, assemble and disassemble cooking gear, dining flies, stoves, etc, at NoBeBoSco. You will need to provide your own trail food. Drivers who are also trek participants can park at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco or drop off their equipment and trekkers and drive solo to YCSR to park in the special parking area. Buses will be provided to transport drivers back to Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco. Buses will not run all night.

On Saturday morning, crews can depart as early as they like after they pack up their extra gear and have their campsite checked. Crews should plan to depart no later than 9 AM. Crews will need to sign up for a campsite check and a departure time.

Safety is paramount on the Special Trek. All youth and adult participants will be expected to conduct themselves in a Scoutlike manner. Trek Crews will keep together and only separate, if it becomes necessary to get help. There will be no racing permitted.

There will be one manned support station along the route, where water will be available. Every trek crew leader must check in at this checkpoint and verify the full attendance of the crew. If a participant becomes incapable of completing the trek, he will be transported by vehicle to YCSR from the checkpoint.

A special recognition will be given to all trek finishers.
