Brenton J. Moody, of Windsor, of Boy Scout Troop #609, who has earned the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout, the highest award in Boy Scouting. Gary W. Feyler, of Thomaston, on the occasion of his retirement from Central Maine Power Company after 36 years of service. We send him our congratulations and best wishes; (HLS 3)

Lloyd and Elaine Sears, of Durham, who have celebrated more than 50 years of marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Sears, who grew up in Durham, were married on December 24, 1955. They have 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. We send them our congratulations and best wishes on their anniversary; (HLS 4)

Nicholas Lunt, of Tenants Harbor, of Boy Scout Troop #214, who has earned the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout, the highest award in Boy Scouting. This award is given in recognition of excellence in skills development, leadership, personal growth and community service. For his Eagle Scout service project, Nicholas completed the restoration of walking paths at the Knox County Humane Society. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to Nicholas on his accomplishment; (HLS 5)

Sawyer Farmer, of Wilton, a 3-year old who performed an act of heroism and helped to get assistance for his father who was pinned between a tree and his 4-wheeler. Young Sawyer, who is a big Spiderman fan, was out with his dad Seth Farmer when the vehicle overturned. Sawyer scaled a fence and ran down an entire street to his home to alert his mother, Sandy Farmer. We congratulate Sawyer Farmer on his brave act and we send him our best wishes; (HLS 6)

Keith H. Lambert, of Fort Kent, on the occasion of his 92nd Birthday, October 8, 2006. Mr. Lambert served in the United States Air Corps Army during World War II. He worked for 35 years for the United States Immigration Department as an Immigration Inspector, and on retirement was appointed by Governor Brennan in 1979 as Acting Aroostook County Commissioner, where, after being elected in his own right, he served for 8 years. Mr. Lambert served as Fort Kent's chair of the Democratic Party for a number of years and is a lifetime member of the Fort Kent Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. We acknowledge his dedicated service to his community, the State of Maine and to the Nation. We send him our appreciation and best wishes on his 92nd birthday; (HLS 7)

Sumner and Marion Pinkham, of Glenburn, on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary, October 20, 2006. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Pinkham on their Golden Anniversary; (HLS 8)

Whitney Lord, of Kenduskeag, a senior at Central High School, who was given a $200 award from Student Paths, a national organization that helps students prepare for life after high school. We send her our congratulations and best wishes on her receiving this honor; (HLS 9)

Frank and Patricia King, of Fairfield, on the occasion of their 50th Anniversary, June 9, 2006. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. King on their Golden Anniversary; (HLS 10)

the Reverend John D. Civiello, of Portland, a native of Millinocket and a priest who served many years in Maine. A graduate of MCI and St. Francis Xavier University, Reverend Civiello studied for the priesthood at St. John's Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts. After ordination, he served as Chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Portland, St. Mary's parish in Bangor, St. Anne's parish in Old Town and St. Mary's parish in Westbrook. For the last 16 years, he served at St. Patrick's parish in Portland. He was also a Chaplain for Maine Medical Center, Maine correctional institutions, the Maine Air National Guard, the Knights of Columbus and the Northern Chapter of the Italian Heritage. He will be greatly missed and long remembered by his loving family, his parishioners, his colleagues and his friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 11)

Malcolm J. Lyons, of Millinocket, a lifelong resident of the Katahdin region and a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War. After his tour of service Mr. Lyons worked as a meat cutter until his retirement. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and grandson, and he will be greatly missed and long remembered by his loving family and his many friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 12)

Renato P. Ippoliti, of Millinocket, a World War II veteran and longtime employee of Great Northern Paper Company. Mr. Ippoliti served in the United States Army during World War II in Germany, France, Italy and England. He was a gunner on the Queen Mary when it carried troops to Europe and he was with the first wave of soldiers onto the beach at Normandy during the D-Day invasion. He worked for 42 and a half years at Great Northern Paper Company and was a skilled mason whose work can be seen in many walls, steps and fireplaces in the Millinocket area. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 80, the VFW Post No. 4154 and a member of BPOE Lodge No. 1521. He will be greatly missed and long remembered by his loving family and friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 13)

Chester "Gus" Powers, of East Millinocket, a veteran of World War II and a 30-year employee of Great Northern Paper Company. Mr. Powers served in the United States Army in the Pacific theater of operations. He attained the rank of sergeant and participated in 13 landings and 9 major engagements. For his heroism and injuries, Mr. Powers was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals. He will be greatly missed and long remembered by his loving family and his friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 14)

Donald R. Rice IV, of Brewer, a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 15, who has earned the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout, the highest award in Boy Scouting. This award is given in recognition of excellence in skills development, leadership, personal growth and community service. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to Donald on his accomplishment; (HLS 15)

Steven E. Rice, of Brewer, a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 15, who has earned the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout, the highest award in Boy Scouting. This award is given in recognition of excellence in skills development, leadership, personal growth and community service. Dabney "Dee" Caldwell, of Groton, Massachusetts and the Boom House on Chesuncook Lake, husband of Marvin Schmidt Caldwell. Dr. Caldwell was the son of Helen Lannigan and


Erskine Caldwell and grew up a die-hard Mainer in Mount Vernon. He served in the United States Marine Corps at the end of World War II. He taught geology at Boston University and Wellesley College for a total of 50 years and led a field camp each summer at the Boom House. Countless students, both undergraduate and graduate, took from him a love of geology. Dr. Caldwell's doctoral thesis was about Mount Katahdin, and he wrote the witty Roadside Geology of Maine and numerous scholarly papers. He was known for his wonderful storytelling and his dry wit. He will be sadly missed and long remembered by his family and the many people whose lives he touched; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 17)

Edna Selberg, of Cousins Island, Yarmouth, on the celebration of her 75th Birthday, December 30, 2006. Mrs. Selberg was born in Portland on January 18, 1932. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to her on this special occasion; (HLS 18)

Thaddaeus A. Webster, of South Berwick, of Boy Scout Troop #338, who has earned the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout, the highest award in Boy Scouting. This award is given in recognition of excellence in skills development, leadership, personal growth and community service. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to Thaddaeus on his accomplishment; (HLS 19)

Frank "Frankie" Gene Rideout, of Standish, at the age of 17. Frankie was a young man who strived to help others: he volunteered in New Orleans to help Hurricane Katrina victims and worked with Habitat for Humanity and the Preble Street Resource Center. He loved to go mountain hiking, snowboarding and whitewater rafting. Frankie will be sadly missed by his family and the many people whose lives he touched; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 20)

Morrill Worcester, of Harrington, and the Worcester Wreath Company for the generous donation of Christmas wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery as part of the Wreaths Across America program. Mr. Worcester started this program in 1992 due to his strong commitment to honor the men and women of the armed forces who serve and have served our country. We extend our best wishes to Mr. Worcester for continued success; (HLS 21)

Sheriff Daniel Davey, of Warren, on his retirement after 22 years as Knox County Sheriff. Sheriff Davey served for more than four decades as a law enforcement officer. We acknowledge and thank Sheriff Davey for his long and honorable public service and send our best wishes on his future endeavors; (HLS 22)

Alphonse Mercier, of Mexico, on the celebration of his 90th birthday, January 6, 2007. Mr. Mercier has been an active member of his community for many years. He has been involved in the Community Concert Association and was a member of R.A.A.P.A. He has performed on stage in various plays and Christmas musicals. Mr. Mercier was presented an award from the Knights of Columbus, Father A.J. Berry Council 2091 for his many years of dedicated service to the St. Athanasius-St. John Parish. He has spent decades visiting the elderly, shut-ins and those hospitalized or in nursing homes. He worked for Carey's Oil Company for more than 40 years. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Mercier on this very special occasion; (HLS 23)

Logan Edwards, of Island Falls, who has earned the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout, the highest award in Boy Scouting. This award is given in recognition of excellence in skills development, leadership, personal growth and community service. Logan is the second son of Steven and Andrea Edwards to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. For his service project, he constructed a cabinet to hold Civil War rifles for the Island Falls Historical Society. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to Logan on his accomplishment; (HLS 24)

the Honorable Darlene J. Curley, of Scarborough, for her four years of service to the people of Maine. Elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 2002, Ms. Curley has been a compassionate and influential voice for her constituents. She was one of the Legislature's leading experts on health policy issues, which earned her an appointment to the Health Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures. During her tenure as a representative she served on the State's Long-term Care Oversight Committee, the Joint Standing Committee on Health and Human Services and the Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs. Ms. Curley was the champion behind the passage of "Tina's Law," a measure submitted to safeguard Maine's highways after her constituent, Tina Turcotte, was killed in a tragic automobile accident on Interstate 95. We acknowledge her honorable public service and send her our best wishes on her future endeavors; (HLS 25)

the Honorable Harold A. Clough, of Scarborough, for his eight years of service to the people of Maine. Elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 1998, Mr. Clough was an insightful and influential voice for his constituents. He served on the Business and Economic Development Committee for his first two terms, holding the position of ranking Republican member during the 120th Legislature. Mr. Clough was the ranking Republican member of the Joint Standing Committee on Taxation during both the 121st and 122nd Legislatures and served on the Joint Select Committee on Property Tax Reform. We join the community of Scarborough in thanking Mr. Clough for the time and energy he invested in honorably serving as a member of the 119th through 122nd Maine State Legislatures; (HLS 26)

Richard "Baldy" Tompson, of Standish. Mr. Tompson served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was an entrepreneur who owned and operated two separate businesses before he became a self-taught housing contractor. Mr. Tompson was a fixture in the community of Standish for most of his life, having served as a code enforcement officer, a plumbing inspector and the first tax assessor in the town. He was a selectman from 1965 to 1968 and served as a town councilor from 1996 to 1999. Mr. Tompson will be greatly missed and long remembered by his family, friends and community; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 27)

the Lisbon High School Football Team, of Lisbon, the 2006 Class C State Champions. This is the team's second consecutive state championship. Coach Richard Mynahan, who was voted Coach of the Year in the Campbell Conference, has coached at Lisbon High School for over 30 years. He was assisted in this winning season by Stacen Doucette, Randy Ridley and John Noel. We extend our congratulations to the Lisbon High School Football Team and best wishes for its continued success; (HLS 28)

the Lisbon High School Cross-country Team, of Lisbon, the 2006 Class C State Champions. This is the team's fourth consecutive state championship. The team's coach, Hank Fuller, has been coaching at Lisbon High School for over 18 years and was voted the Mountain Valley Coach of the Year for this past season. The commitment to excellence shown by these athletes is commendable. We extend our congratulations to the Lisbon High School Cross-country team on this outstanding achievement and our best wishes for its continued success; (HLS 29)
