The participant will be able to demonstrate the ability to maintain high standards of competence in the delivery of immunisations in a school setting

Able to alter communication style in order to engage child or young person - including children with additional needs.
Offers young people the opportunity to feedback about their experience of having an immunisation, and involves them in shaping future service delivery.
Demonstrate knowledge/expertise regarding vulnerability factors at all contacts with children/young people / Listening to young people and assessing if there are vulnerability factors.
Knowledge of potential risk factors for harm and neglect of children and young people.
Recognise and report situations where there might be a need for protection.
Knowledge of local safeguarding procedures.
Knowledge of sexual health vulnerability tools when immunising young people.
Demonstrate rigorous procedure in regards to consent / Deals sensitively with children who refuse immunisation.
Self consent is considered with Fraser guidelines.
Record keeping and liaison with parent/ GP post-immunisation as relevant
Demonstrate ability to work as a team player to enhance delivery within an educational setting / Administration and nursing staff clear of their role and able to work effectively in the delivery of immunisations in school.
Communicate effectively with other practitioners and professionals by listening and ensuring you are being listened to.
Demonstrate ability to use judgment and clear decision making in use of Guidelines for immunisations delivered in a school setting / All sessions have adequate nursing and admin staff per pupil ratio.
All nursing staff adhere to PGD guidelines and The Green Book.
Competency assessed, expert knowledge and expertise of Green book chapters and PGD, and PGD signed
All nursing staff work within NMC guidelines.
All pupils dealt with post immunisation in line with PGD /RCN guidance.
Evidence of Immunisation Essential Training and update.
Evidence of medicine management and PGD training
Completion of Ulysses when risks or adverse reactions
Demonstrate expertise in Infection control and hand washing / Wash hands as per Hand washing /Infection control policy at beginning of session.
Arms to be bare below the elbow.
Use hand gel between each pupil.
Wash hands/use Clinell wipe after 5 pupils.
If using gloves change them between each pupil.
Evidence of Infection Control training.
Infection prevention and control audits completed
Demonstrate expertise in transportation and maintenance of the Cold Chain. / Vaccine ordered and stored as per Trust Cold Chain guideline at base and when in transit.
Vaccine fridge at base checked and temperatures recorded twice daily.
Vaccine transported to immunisation session in cool bags with appropriate cool packs and thermometers.
During session cold chain is maintained and unused vaccine is transported correctly back to base.
Unused vaccine is marked and dated and used at the next immunisation session.
Account for responsibilities in practice regarding record keeping as set out by standards of NMC & local & national policies. Aware of particular issues regarding security and confidentiality. / Follows Trust Information governance and record keeping policies.
