The UFHRD Teaching and Learning Resource Bank
Initiative Title / Human Bingo – Singapore version
Authors / Dr. Fiona Robson, Newcastle Business School
Key Words / Ice-breaker, Singapore
Context / This is suitable for modules delivered overseas (and in this case Singapore) where an ice-breaker is required.
Purpose / The purpose of this resource is to provide an ice-breaker for students in Singapore where the response categories are appropriate for their own country.
How it works / All students should be provided with a copy of the worksheet and then they have to talk to each other to find one person for each square. When they find someone who meets the criteria they should introduce themselves and sign the relevant box. The student who gets all boxes signed off first wins a prize (usually just a pen of bag of sweets). This can be easily adapted for other countries by updating the boxes where the text is shown in blue.
Evaluation/Feedback / Informal feedback from students in Singapore is very positive and that they feel very pleased that they have a custom activity (rather than using the normal version which we would use in the UK). Tutors have reported that it gets the sessions off to a good start and helps to build a good relationship between them and the students.
