Appendix 4: Studies excluded based on suspected overlapping datasets

Forty-twostudies were excluded because an overlap with another dataset was suspected (e.g., two studies were conducted in the same hospital in the same time period). The study with the largest sample was always included.

For scrub typhus, 38 studies were excluded: two studies from China,1,212 from India,3-14 ten from South Korea,15-24five from Taiwan,25-29 one from Sri Lanka,30 seven from Thailand,31-37 and one from Vietnam.38

For Mediterranean Spotted fever, nine studies were excluded: three from Algeria,39-41 one from Croatia,42 two from Italy,43,44 two from Portugal,45,46 and one study from Tunesia.47
