CONTEXT:

Nestled in the beautiful village of Hutton-le-Hole, in the heart of the North York Moors National Park, Ryedale Folk Museum offers a unique glimpse of the past. For half a century we’ve conserved some of Ryedale’s most magnificent heritage for future generations to enjoy. Our atmospheric buildings and collections, spread over six acres, tell a story about a rural way of life from the Iron Age to the 1950s. The museum also features a gift shop and art gallery.

The successful candidate will be employed to assist another Museum staff member at the weekends to provide a first class visitor experience, maintain excellent standards of service, optimise opportunities to generate income and ensure that the site is safe and secure.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis (with interviews held accordingly) until the posts are filled. Weekend shifts will commence on 17 February. This is a temporary contract until late November 2018.

JOB TITLE: Visitor Services Assistant

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Operations Manager

PAY: Hourly paid – £8.00/hour

HOURS: Working every other weekend, from 9.30am – 4.30pm (Feb, Mar, Oct, Nov) and 9.30am – 5.30pm (Apr – Sep).

Additional hours may be offered to cover gaps in weekend and weekday staffing provision.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the responsibilities required of the candidate, Ryedale Folk Museum is only inviting applications from persons aged 18 years or older. Due to the site location, candidates must be able to arrange transport to and from the Museum – public transport is not available.

KEY DUTIES:

·  Providing a friendly and helpful welcome, as well as professional and personable service at all times to all visitors.

·  To be aware of visitors’ individual needs and help to accommodate these.

·  Selling tickets and items from the gift shop through competent use of the museum’s EPOS system.

·  Informing visitors about current and forthcoming events, activities and exhibitions.

·  General cleaning of facilities, visitor toilets, shop and office.

·  Maintaining high presentation standards throughout the site by keeping front of house and the general site areas tidy and reporting any deficiencies.

·  Feeding the Museum’s animals.

·  Unlocking and locking the Museum’s buildings.

·  Understanding and following the museum’s health and safety and operational procedures.

·  Maintaining good communication with staff and volunteers through attendance at meetings and keeping up to date with museum matters.

·  Providing appropriate assistance to the museum’s volunteers and ensuring their well-being whilst on site.

·  Knowledge of service expectations and experience of working in a customer-facing role (essential).
