Job Title:Head of Marketing, Communications and Income Generation

Reports to:Hospice Director
Job Purpose: To plan, implement and deliver the marketing and communication, strategic and “business as usual” objectives, with additional line management responsibilities for the Income Generation Team.
Context: East Cheshire Hospice hasinitiatedadditional servicesto complement its daily service delivery needs; theseincludechildhood bereavement services, dementia care, an End of Life Partnership collaboration. Expansion has been made in specialist palliative care provision alongsideeducation and training programmes.
Raising and promoting awareness of the Hospice’s services with the 200,000 population of East Cheshire is a key ‘business as usual’ responsibility of this role.
Hospice care is an increasingly challenging environment requiring strong links and community engagement to be made across a broad range of stakeholders, healthcare professionalsand partner organisations such as Age UK, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and MS Societies in addition to Crossroads, Cheshire & Warrington Carers, Macmillan.
3. Duties
Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Development and implementation of the Hospice’s Marketing & Communications Strategy tosupport delivery of the 5 Year Strategy 2013 – 2018.
  • Measurement and evaluation over the effectiveness of the Marketing & Communications Strategy and responsibility for its continued best practice operation.
  • Management of Hospice Media/PR communication and engagement in association withinternal and externalstakeholders.
  • Development and dissemination of key services literature, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Development and support ofdigital marketing channels including website and social media integration.
  • Identification of promotional marketing and communication methods to target a broad range of stakeholders, particularly with the objective of increasing awareness in community engagement.
  • Promotion and expansion ofcommunication through the Hospice’s online community utilising the facilitiesset within the Net Community software.
  • Development and circulation of newsletters/e-newsletter to increase community stakeholder and community engagement.
  • Establishing principles and practices for Hospice internal communications working with senior managers, trustees and stakeholders.
  • Highlighting promotion of Hospice-related events (internal and external) and national/international awareness events such as Hospice Care Week, Carers Week etc.
  • To be a proactive/active member of the Hospice Senior Management Team contributing to the strategic direction and management of the organisation and taking shared corporate responsibility.

5. Person Specification
Overview requirements:
  • A good understanding of the current and future issues facing the voluntary, health and social care sectors and the marketing and communications implications.
  • A good understanding of Income Generation and the fundraising environment.
  • The ability to deal with challenging situations and exercise sound judgement in seeking and negotiating creative solutions.
  • A creative approach to project management and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of media relations, marketing, internal communications and e-communications.
  • Experience of leading and managing marketing activity in a complex public or private sector environment.
  • The ability to influence colleagues, volunteers and external professionals
  • The ability to effectively manage a varied and demanding workload
Qualifications /
  • Good overall level of education, relevant degree or equivalent in Marketing/Communications

Experience /
  • Strategic planning and implementation
  • Proven background working experience in marketing & communications across all media channels (online, offline and broadcast)
  • Digital Marketing communication skills including website and social media development
  • Proposal / business case writing from preparation to delivery
  • Understanding and awareness of the sector
