Crookston Castle Primary March Newsletter

Apologies for the delay in this newsletter and in some of the events. Because of school closures some events have had to be rescheduled to new dates.

Crazy Hair Day fundraiser: Even better than last year - what amazing creativity! There was a lovely atmosphere in school on our crazy hair day and we were very impressed with the variety of hair-dos and hair-don’t’s! Thanks to your continued support we raised a further £305towards our school library fund.

Parents’ Evening Appointments: The letters for these dates were delayed due to the school closures for snow. Appointments will be issued asap next week. Please bear with us as this is a large logistical task for a school this size!

World Book Day: This has been rescheduled to Thursday 8th March.

Mr Welch has organised WBD events at Crookston with a variety of literacy experiences for all our children. All children and staff are invited to dress up as a character from a storybook. Our children are going out to read at local nurseries, care homes and community groups. Children will be taking part in storytelling events from The Village and our local Library. Children have brought in books for a big book swap and we hope they will enjoy the many fun activities that we have planned.

Hair Hygiene: Several parentsfrom classes across the school have been reporting that their children have come home with head lice and/or nits. It is important that you check your child’s hair regularly to ensure their hair is clean. Even after chemical treatment you should check for eggs in hair. The simplest way to do this is by using a nit comb drawn through hair wet with conditioner, Free prescriptions for chemical treatment are available from pharmacies if you bring along evidence eg a louse on a piece of sticky tape. While we will not identify any child we will continue to send out text messages to classes affected so you can be vigilant. Further advice is available from:

Lost Property: There is a considerable amount of lost property in the school. This will be out on Parents’ Evenings. Anything not collected by then will be recycled. As well as lots of school jumpers there are several warm winter jackets. Please label your children’s clothes so we can return lost items easily.

Parking Safety: Our local councillor has raised, on behalf ofresidents, the issue of parking and safety around the school. Please do not park:

  • on the zig-zags of the school crossing
  • on pavements
  • across people’s driveways
  • across access paths for sheltered housing We will continue to work with the police in monitoring this. Our children cannot cross safely if the crossing is obscured.

Fairtrade Fortnight: Mrs Norris and the Fair Trade Group have been promoting awareness of fair trade throughout the school. Children are earning extra house points for bringing fairtrade snacks. The fairtrade committee attended an event in Paisley where they heard first hand from farmers about the difference fairtrade makes to their lives.

Parent Council: The date for the next Parent Council Meeting is still to be arranged but will be posted on facebook and via our twitter asap. Their next event is a P1 and P2 Easter Parade party on Tuesday 27th March 6.30 to 7.30 pm. Tickets on sale soon, details to follow.
