  • The ODE Diploma Coordination Team, with representatives from all ODE offices, meets monthly to coordinatediploma implementation and communications.

 COMMUNICATIONS & STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

  • Diploma messages have been included in monthly publications: Superintendent’s Pipeline, Superintendent’s Update, and monthly newsletters.
  • The Moving Education Forward brochure has been widely distributed in schools and among stakeholder groups. Translated versions in Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Vietnamese are posted on-line.
  • Diploma presentation/input sessions targeting administrators have been held in the following ESD regions: Clackamas, Douglas, Harney, Lake, Lane, Linn-Benton-Lincoln, Madras, Malheur, Multnomah, Northwest Regional, South Coast, Southern Oregon, Umatilla-Morrow, Union-Baker, Jefferson, and Willamette; the remaining regions are scheduled for October-December.
  • Fall conference presentations include: Special Education conference, COSA conference, Oregon School Counselors Association conference, Oregon School Board’s Association convention.

 CORE STANDARDS

  • Draft 1 of the revised K-12 science Oregon content standards (core standards structure) is posted for public input.
  • Draft 1 of the revised high school mathematics Oregon content standards (core standards structure) is posted for public input.

ASSESSMENT of the ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Members of the Assessment of the Essential Skills Review Panel (AESRP) have been selected and met Oct 14-15th to begin the process of identifying additional assessments and state criteria for local assessment options.
  • Started the process to develop a Reading scoring guide for a local assessment option.

CREDIT FOR PROFICIENCY

  • Credit for Proficiency Task Force recommendations will be presented to the State Board in October as an information item.

 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • ODE is working with the Northwest Regional Education Lab and ESDs to develop a roll out and implementation strategy for math and science instruction professional development. Convened a statewide advisory group to develop a plan of action
  • Planning student peer-to-peer training with Oregon Association of Student Councils.
