What is the APhA-ASP’s IPSF:Medicine Awareness Campaign?
The Medicine Awareness Campaign is an IPSF public health campaign that many countries participating in IPSF support. APhA-ASP decided to participate in this specific IPSF public health campaign due to its promotion of medication awareness, which is essential to our profession. This campaign is very similar to the mission of Generation Rx. We as student pharmacists know that patients should be educated about the effects of medications to optimize their health outcomes. The campaign can run during any time of the year.
How can I get involved?
Easy! All you need is a couple of people who are interested in participating in these events. The best people to choose from are members of APhA-ASP, as they are also members of IPSF. This campaign aims to inform about drug abuse and addictions, drug side effects and adverse reactions, drug interaction (drug-drug, drug-food) and polypharmacy, provide free, accurate data about drugs, medication adherence, and increase drug awareness among special populations. The target audience should dictate the type of presentation you share with others. You may want to work with your Generation Rx committee at your school to see what materials need to be made. Informational pamphlets can be made for patients or powerpointpresentations can be made as well if you want to target students. You may want to look into giving out medication adherence cards at health fairs. These cards are often available in different languages as well if you have a certain group you want to target.
