AP calculus Grading and Attendance Policy

Textbook:

  • Calculus 10th Edition. Larson, Hostetler, Edwards: New York; Houghton Mifflin, 2013.

Materials Needed:

  • You will need a textbook, notebook, paper, and a pencil in class every day. You will need to have a graphing calculator as well, any of TI-83/84/84+/Inspire/89… (look online for deals!)

Expectations:

  • Be respectful: You are expected to be respectful of your peers, your teacher, and your building.
  • Be responsible: You are expected to take responsibility for your learning by actively participating in class, and seeking out help! (DO NOT WAIT TO GET TOO FAR BEHIND BEFORE YOU SEEK OUT HELP, STAY ON TOP AND CAUGHT UP!!)
  • Be prepared: You are expected to be on time, have your supplies every day, and complete all homework before class.

Grading:

  • Summative Assessments are worth 80% of overall grade. We will strive to have 3 test per quarter!
  • Formative Assessments are worth 20% of overall grade. There will be announced formal quizzes, but also this class will make liberal use of shorter mini-quizzes and occasional pop quizzes. This will usually be hinted at, but not formally announced.
  • Grading Scale: 90-100% (A), 80-90% (B), 70-80% (C), 60-70% (D), <60% (F)

Attendance:Students will be expected to follow the attendance guidelines at Creekside High School.

  • Students are to be in their seats, ready to begin when the bell sounds. On the third tardy, consequences commence.
  • Keep absences to a minimum. Excused absences you will be allowed to make up work within the district guidelines, but it will be the responsibility of the student to acquire make up notes and work
  • Missed tests MUST be made up outside class time within 2 days of excused absence, NO EXCEPTIONS! For Co-curricular activities, such as field trips, sports, vacations, et al, the student should make work arrangements with me ahead for make-up work in advance. Tests and quizzes will be taken with class upon return unless prearranged!

Obstacles to Success:

  • Too many absences
  • Homework not completed or up to date
  • And the biggest reason :Waiting too long to come in for help! Be proactive,
  • not reactive.

My responsibilities to you as your teacher

  • I promise to be punctual, reliable, consistent and do my best to help you succeed in this class
  • I will treat each and every student and parent with the respect, dignity, and professionalism you to which you are entitled and deserve. Even in disagreement, I will try to be civil, courteous, compassionate, empathetic, and level-headed.
  • I will try my best to provide feedback from tests and quizzes in as quick a time as possible.
  • I will be available for tutoring before school starting at 8:00 before the bell rings Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
  • I will provide all ESE and ELL accommodations in class as legally required
