Winners of the

AOTF/Patterson Award

for Community Volunteerism

The American Occupational Therapy Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of the AOTF/ Patterson Award for Community Volunteerism. These five individuals exemplify the outstanding commitment of occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants to their communities. They contribute their time and expertise to improve quality of life and in so doing, promote the recognition of the value of occupational therapy to the public-at-large.

Each of the winners will be recognized at the AOTA/AOTF Annual Conference awards ceremony and will receive an award and honorarium to be used to offset their AOTA Annual Conference attendance expenses.

AOTF would like to thank the co-sponsor of this award, The Patterson Foundation, of St. Paul, Minnesota.

The contributions of each of the awardees cannot be easily summed up in a few lines.

·  Patricia Coker-Bolt, PhD, OTR/L Dr. Coker Bolt is a founding board member of the Charleston Miracle League (an all-volunteer baseball league for children and adults with disabilities) and a founding board member and current president of Pattison’s Academy (a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with disabilities).

·  Yvette Hachtel, JD, MEd, OTR/L Dr. Hachtel provides assessments and interventions related to basic life skills for men who are chronically homeless through the Odyssey Program of the Campus for Human Development in Nashville, Tennessee.

·  Debra Lindstrom Hazel, PhD, OTR Dr. Lindstrom Hazel is a co-creator of HomeFit, an educational program designed to to help people learn how they can safely stay in their own homes as long as they choose.

·  Deborah Whitcomb, MBA, OTR/L Ms. Whitcomb created the Cincinnati Occupational Therapy Foundation.

·  Catalina Zobel, BA, COTA Ms. Zobel is a dedicated and creative volunteer with the ACTS Lima Estates Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCR).
