BORDEAUX 2013!
What are you doing after the Rotary International Convention in Lisbon? Interested in seeing the premier wine producing region of the world? How about a trip through Spain on your way to see the wine region? Sally and Tim Schilds have arranged with Claude Guigon of Barrique 33 Wine Tours to tour the impressive wine region of Bordeaux. The tour will include visits to wineries of course but it may also include a French cooking class, a tour of the city of Bordeaux (a world heritage site), visits to a farmers market, attending a Rotary meeting, a tour of the ancient city of St Emilion, a wine tasting school (learn how to discern different tastes and the age of wine). The tour will include some great meals and the wine of course is incredible.
We have arranged for Claude to pick us up in Lisbon on June 27. From Lisbon we will drive through Spain, stopping for the first night in Burgos Spain and then stop for lunch in Biarritz the second day. From there we are on to Bordeaux and our accommodation at the Chateau La Riviere in Fronsac. We will be seven days in Bordeaux and the tour includes all accommodation, meals, entrance fees and a driver/tour organizer. Claude grew up in Bordeaux and spent his career in the hospitality industry in Sun Valley, USA. Sally and I were lucky enough to arrange a tour with Claude in 2011 and can tell you it is not to be missed. During the tour Claude was constantly taking our picture and about three weeks after our arrival home we received a CD with a power point presentation on it as well as a spare 968 pictures! We are limited to seven couples in total (six besides ourselves) at this point as that is the capacity for rooms at Chateau La Riviere. The total cost for the tour will be $5,850 per couple. This is the normal fee for just Bordeaux but with seven couples Claude is driving across Spain for free. The only other cost you will have during the week in Bordeaux will be souvenirs and alcohol purchases (we recommend drinking the wine). First six couples with a deposit of $500 will be in for the trip of a lifetime. Travel to Lisbon and from Bordeaux is not included in the fee.
