Job Profile:
To promote understanding of Anthony Nolan’s lifesaving work among political audiences and wider stakeholders. To manage Anthony Nolan’s policy research, which informs our public position on issues of significance within stem cell transplantation. To develop and manage Anthony Nolan’s campaigning activity, engaging decision-makers, stakeholders and supporter to promote the case or positive public policy change.
Key Responsibilities
To work under the management of the Head of Policy & Public Affairs to carry out Anthony Nolan’s public affairs activity, maximise opportunities for influence, and develop policy positions and campaigns for the charity. Thisincludes but isnot limited to:
Policy
- To manage the Anthony Nolan’s Policy Steering Group, ensuring documents are prepared and meetings are arranged in a timely fashion.
- To develop policy positions, lines to take, briefing materials and speech notes for colleagues and external contacts.
- To research and monitor policy development in all areas relevant to Anthony Nolan’s activity.
- To research, write and produce - or commission and manage - policy reports as a basis for the charity’s campaigning activity.
Public Affairs
- To implement the public affairs strategy to maximise parliamentary interaction and create positive outcomes for the charity.
- To undertake the secretariat function for the All Party Parliamentary Group on stem cell transplantation.
- To organise and promote events for MPs, peers, government and other stakeholders.
- To execute a public affairs programme including party conference activity, parliamentary events, meetings, All Party Parliamentary Group work, etc.
- To develop and maintain a group of parliamentary friends/champions who are willing to raise issues for Anthony Nolan, with regular updates and opportunities for further engagement.
- To arrange and attend meetings with key officers and parliamentarians as appropriate, providing briefing and follow up notes.
- To represent the charity as appropriate in meetings with other organisations on areas of mutual interest. To ensure the charity receives the optimum benefit from memberships of coalition organisations and alliances.
- To respond to enquiries from MPs, produce responses to consultations and other enquiries.
- To write speeches as requested.
Campaigning
- To input into Anthony Nolan’s campaigning strategy
- To assist in the development of Anthony Nolan’s public policy campaigning offering
- To develop channels to engage Anthony Nolan supporters in campaigning
- To monitor the success of Anthony Nolan campaigns and report to senior management
Other duties
- To manage the Policy & Public Affairs Assistant effectively, setting objectives, having regular one-to-one meetings, prioritising workloads and performing appraisals etc.
- To work closely with colleagues in Communications to maximise opportunities for PR around our public affairs and policy activity.
- To provide advice and support for colleagues across the charity to maximise opportunities for public affairs to support their work, and update them on public affairs activity as appropriate
- To attend and contribute constructively to team meetings
- To champion the charity’s corporate brand, values and vision
- To undertake, when needed, other reasonable tasks required by the charity’s management
