ANTARCTIC SEALS CONSERVATION REGULATIONS

EXPLANATORY NOTE TO PERMIT-HOLDER REPORT ON ACTIVITIES

This form has been developed for permit-holders to report on any activities undertaken in the Convention area or in the Antarctic in relation to seals. The form has been placed on Public Access, however, a form can be obtained direct from the Permits Officer.

Permit-holders are required in accordance with paragraph 6(1)(e) and/or a condition of permit, to provide a comprehensive report to the Australian Antarctic Division within 30 days of the expiration of the permit on all activities carried out in accordance with a permit granted under the Antarctic Seals Conservation Regulations.

There may also be times when permit-holders are required, as a condition of a permit, to report on any other aspects of their activity. In these instances, there may not be an appropriate space provided on the form and it will therefore be necessary for the permit-holder to provide the report on a separate sheet of paper.

Please note the following:

1.The form on Public Access MUST not be changed in anyway, except to increase the designated text areas.

2.All permit-holders must complete the cover sheet, but the other sections will need to be filled out according to the activities undertaken as appropriate and, in some instances, it will be necessary to provide a report on a separate sheet of paper.

3.The word take in the Antarctic Seals Conservation Regulations has been interpreted to mean capture and remove from the area (ie the area south of 60°S). It should also be noted that take is defined in the Regulations to include taking a dead seal.

4.Upon completion, sign and forward the completed report to the:
