  1. To prepare a slate of candidates for 20143 for election by the membership to the Board of Directors

Minimum Expectations for Current Year:

  1. Prepare a slate of candidates for the positions of Vice-President/President-Elect, Treasurer and SIGs Director and Director of External Relations
  2. Document procedures for candidate recruitment for use by future chairs

Major Accomplishments:

  1. See the attached list of people who where approached
  2. For the position of SIGs Director, the candidates are: Diane Rasmussen Pennington , and Leanne Bowler ,
  3. For the position of Treasurer, the candidates are Denise Adkins and Paulette Kerr
  4. For the position of President-Elect, the candidates are Louise Spiteri and Tula Giannini

Issues of Concern:

  1. More than 30 people were approached for the positions and this was not expected. When I joined the committee, I had no idea that I will be the Chair and I was almost appointed de facto as I was the most senior member. In the future, people on the committee who may become the chair should be warned about the level of difficulty of finding people for elections. Many senior faculty members are about to retire and most junior professors are not interested to be involved until they get tenure, which is very legitimate.
  2. The fact that the members of the committees and the chair are not listed on the ALISE website until this report is received makes the whole process very odd. One or two people asked me whether I was really the chair….

Recommendations to the Board (if any):

  1. There should be a list of people who were approached in recent years that is made available to the committee, otherwise we end up asking the same people.
  2. In other organizations, the Past President is the chair of the nominating committee (such as ASIST). Maybe this should be considered. People would be more interested to discuss the possibility of being elected when they can discuss with the past president about the kind of work that is done at the Board.
