Annual Policy for Awarding Graduate Assistantships/Graduate Research Scholarships

Prospectivestudentsapplyingforadmissionorstudents currentlyenrolledintheDepartmentofTeacherEducationrequestingfinancialassistancemustcompleteaDepartmentofTeacherEducationfinancialaidapplication.

ThefinancialaidapplicationmustbereturnedtotheDepartmentofTeacherEducation,Room 309CC McCrackenHall or via email to .Theapplicationwillbereviewedusingthecriteriadescribedbelowformaster’sanddoctoral students.

Based on evidence of satisfactory progress, priorityforawardingfinancialaidwillbegiventosecondandthirdyeardoctoralstudentswhohavealreadybeenawardedaidthepreviousyear.

Itwillbetheresponsibilityoftheindividualgraduatestudenttoreapply,asappropriate,bythe financialaidapplicationdeadlinedate.ApplicationshouldbesubmittedbyMarch1oftheprecedingacademicyear.

Criteria for Awarding of Graduate Assistantships/Graduate Research Scholarships

To Doctoral Students

1.Graduateassistantshipsupportfordoctoralstudentsordinarilywillbelimitedto6semesters.Thiswillqualifythestudentforamaximumof3summersemestersoffeewaiversinadditiontothe6semestersofassistance.Financialsupportissubjecttosatisfactoryprogressinthedegreeprogram.

2.Financialaidwillbe awardedto thebestqualifiedapplicantsbaseduponthefollowingcriteria:

a.Ahighgradepointaverageinthemaster’sdegree(3.40orbetter)program.

b.Graduate Record Exam (GRE) verbal and quantitative scores – minimum 300

c.Appropriatenessof prior experiences andcompleted degreeprogramsinprovidingadequatepreparationforthegraduateprogram of study.

d.Description ofthetypeandlengthofprofessionalservice,professionalactivities,research,writing,participationinprofessionalorganizations,orspecialprojects.

3.Ininstanceswherenon-DepartmentofTeacherEducationfunds(suchasspecificgrantsandprojects)areunutilized,specialand/oradditionalcriteriamaybeemployedforagraduateappointment.

4.Anyapplicationforagraduateassistantshipthatrequiresdeviationfromtheabovecriteria willbeconsideredonanindividualbasis.

Criteria for Awarding of Graduate Assistantships/Graduate Research Scholarships

To Master’s Students

1.Graduateassistantshipsupport formaster’sdegreestudentswillbelimitedto2semesters.With1or2summersemestersoffeewaiversthisprovidestothestudent3or4semestersofsupport.

2.Financialaidwill be awardedto thebestqualifiedapplicantsbaseduponthefollowingcriteria:

a.Highcumulativegradepointaverageintheundergraduateprogram.Prioritytogradepointaverageof3.00andabove.

b.Appropriatenessof prior experience and completedundergraduateprogramsofstudy inprovidingadequatepreparationforthegraduateprogram of study.

c.GraduateRecordExam(GRE)verbalandquantitativescores – minimum290

d.Description ofthetypeandlengthofprofessionalservice,professionalactivities,research,writing,participationinprofessionalorganizations,orspecialprojects.

3.FinancialassistanceintheformofOhioUniversityassistantshipsarenotordinarilyawardedtofirstyearinternationalstudentsintheDepartmentofTeacherEducation.
