Annual Meeting for the Teachers of Medical Statistics
(Burwalls) 2012 – General Information
Accommodation
If you’re a residential delegate, you will be staying in one of the en-suite rooms at Sheavyn House, just over the quad from Behrens House, on the Ashburne Hall campus (see map). You will be handed your keys at registration.
Parking
If you’re driving you’ll need a parking permit to park behind the Ashburne Hall site (the car park can be accessed from Old Hall Lane) – please contact Annie Herbert about this via email () before July 3rd 2012 if you’ll need one.
Registration
Registration and key pick-up is at 2.00pm, Wednesday July 4th in the foyer of Behren’s House. There is a welcome lunch at 12.30pm followed by introductions at 1.40pm, also in Behren’s House.
Departures
The meeting will end Friday July 6th at midday, with a farewell lunch.
Wi-fi internet access
Within both Behrens House and Sheavyn House you can gain access to the wireless internet using the Cloud network.
Group outings
Wednesday July 4th – tables and a special menu have been booked to eat at Sangam’s in Rusholme for 7.30pm. Taxis will pick up at 7.15pm in the quad.
Thursday July 5th – a walking tour has been booked to celebrate the centenary of ‘Alan Turing – Tortured Genius of the Computer Age’. Taxis will pick up at 1.30pm in the quad to take us to the meeting point at Manchester Museum. This walk lasts about two hours. For anyone who doesn’t fancy the walk, they’re welcome to visit Manchester Museum, whose entry is free. Taxis will pick up outside the museum at 5.00pm.
Getting to/from Ashburne Hall
Car
From the South - M56 until it becomes Princess Parkway/Princess Road (A5103). After two miles turn right onto Wilbraham Road (A6010). At the third set of traffic lights you are at the junction of Wilmslow Road and Wilbraham Road.
All other directions - we suggest that you join the M60. If travelling from the East/North of Manchester exit at Junction 5 and proceed as above route. If travelling from West/North exit at Junction 7 signposted Manchester/Altrincham/Sale. Follow A56 Chester Road towards Manchester Centre for three quarters of a mile. Then turn
right at traffic lights onto A5145 Edge Lane signposted Sheffield. After three quarters of a mile bear left at traffic lights onto A6010
Wilbraham Road signposted Chorlton. Carry on for two and a half miles to Junction of Wilmslow Road/Wilbraham Road.
Train
From Piccadilly - walk to Piccadilly Gardens (it will be signposted) and catch either the no. 142, 144, 42 or 43 bus from the concourse between the Gardens and a line of shops (Tesco, Quality Save, etc.). Descend when you have passed the sign ‘Platt Fields Park’ on your right. Continue walking the same direction and the drive leaving up to Ashburne Hall will be on the corner of the main road and Old Hall Lane.
From Oxford Road – cross the main road to the bus stop outside the Palace Theatre. Catch either the no. 142, 144, 42 or 43 bus. Descend when you have passed the sign ‘Platt Fields Park’ on your right. Continue walking in the same direction; the drive leaving up to Ashburne Hall will be on the corner of the main road and Old Hall Lane to your left.
Air: If you are flying, there is a bus terminal at the train station of the airport. Catch the no. 43 bus from the station towards Manchester Piccadilly (City Centre) and descend when you see Owens Park Tower to your right (the journey should take about 30 minutes and the fare cost about £4). Continue walking in the same direction; the drive leaving up to Ashburne Hall will be on the corner of the main road and Old Hall Lane to your right.
