2President’s Report

Antony Barrow, President, welcomed those present to the AGM for 2001.

Membership: It was noted that there were 6 new members and 1 resignationduring the year, bringing the totalmembership numbers to 168. The Club has continued to make sterling efforts during the year to attract new “young blood”, to the extent that it had set aside sufficient funds to sponsor under-30’s attending the 2001 Race Week to the tune of £150 per person. It was encouraging to note that the categories of racers for 2001 were 6 Premier, 10 Gold,23 Silver, 20 Bronze, 17 Ladies, and 28 Newcomers, many of whom came from London and were under 30 years of age.

Sponsorship - Corporate: A vote of thanks to all sponsors was recorded, particularly to Aon and Marsh. It is entirely due to their generous sponsorship that the Race Week takes place. Aon Rotterdam is again sponsoring the ice bar. In recognition of Aon’s and Marsh’s sponsorship, Thursday’s race day is the Aon Giant Slalom Day, with cups provided by them for the winners of the Aon Men’s Individual and Team Challenge Cups, and Friday’s race day is the Marsh Super G Day. It was noted that the other sponsors to receive a vote of thanks were HSBC Insurance Brokers Ltd, Heath Lambert Group, Robert Fleming Insurance Brokers Limited and Willis Limited.

Sponsorship - Individual: It was noted that in 2001 the Club sponsored each UK resident, London based member of the Club who works in the market by SFCs 100 each. In addition, it was noted that UK resident, London based members of the Club will pay reduced rate race fees being SFCs 100 per person in cash.

Verbier 2001:The President declared another fantastic success. A vote of thanks was recorded to Chris Ritchie, Captain and Jonathan Creagh Coen, Deputy Captain. A particular vote of thanks was also recorded to Thierry Dufour of New Re in Geneva for his immense amount of work and contribution for coordinating the Continental European entries. The President further wished to thank Magnus Eriksson, Hon. Secretary and Andrew Barnard, Hon. Treasurer, for controlling the money throughout the year. Lastly, and certainly not least, a huge vote of thanks was recorded to Dana Creagh Coen who acts as Organiser.

Autumn Ball: The President reported that the Autumn Cocktail Party held at Cross Keys in London was a much smaller event. The Cocktail Party was attended by about 40 people.

MomentumCity Ski Challenge 2002:The Club sent 8 people, 2, to the Momentum City Ski Challenge held in Courmayeur, Italyon 31stJanuary– 3th February, 2002. The Club sent 2 teams of 4 people. Filippo Guerrini- Maraldi took 1st place as the fastest Insurance Broker.

3Statement of Accounts

Andrew Barnard, Hon. Treasurer, presented the annual Report & Accounts, which were largely self-explanatory. It was reported that we received £23,000 in sponsorship to put towards the net account. It was noted that the deficit has been reduced from £7,400 to £3,300. It was also reported that the costs of running the Club had increased from £1,000 to £2,000 largely due to expenditures from printing cost and the Hotel Vanessa. It was noted that it is time to rebuild finances before giving any more incentives or sponsorships.

After various brief questions, formal adoption of the Report & Accounts was proposed by Adrian Spooner and seconded by Andrew Barnard.

4Election of Officers and Committee

It was noted that James Nicholson co-opted to the Committee during the year under review, was eligible to be formally elected as members of the Committee. The election ofJames Nicholson was proposed by Andrew Barnard and seconded by Hugo van der Gucht.

It was notedthat Enrico Ricceriwould step down as Captain and will be replaced by Rob Woods. It was also noted that Chris Ritchie would remain as Deputy Captain. The election was proposed by Jonathan Creagh-Coenand seconded by Magnus Eriksson. The President thanked Enrico Ricceri for all his help as Captain.

6Any Other Business

Verbier 2002: It was noted that there was a smaller turnout of about 80 people. The racing was run by the Club’s Captain Rob Woods. The racing took place over 2 days instead of 3. The Club agreed that this was a much better program for the racing and that the racing would be run the same way next year. It was also decided that going forward the racing would be limited to 100 racers. It was reported that the Continentals were very complimentary regarding Race Week 2002.

The President announced that Race Week 2003 would be not be held in Verbier next year. The Club would look into several other locations. The follow Committee Members would look into the following locations: Hugo van der Gucht - St. Anton, Austria, Dana Creagh-Coen – Courchevel, France, Andrew Barnard – Tignes, France and Enrico Ricceri – alternative locations in Italy. No decisions would be made until all proposals were put forward. It was noted that preliminary dates for Race Week 2003 would be 6th-7th March 2003 subject to the school holidays.

There being no further business, Antony Barrow declared the AGM closed.
