A separate sheet is attached

i)Brief objective of the project :1) To study the applications of non conventional energy sources like solar energy.

2) To create the awareness among general public and students to motivate them to go for solar energy instead of depending on conventional energy.

3) To provide pure and safe drinking water for college students using solar thermal energy.

ii)Work done so far and results achieved and publications, if any, resulting from the work (Give details of the papers and names of the journals in which it has been published or accepted for publication.

  • Solar still equipment is manufactured and installed in the college premises successfully.
  • During bright sunny day still provides about 80 ltrs of pure and safe distilled water for drinking.
  • Attended a State Level Seminar on “Non-Conventional and Renewable Sources of Energy” in ASMCollege for Women, Bellary and Presented a Paper on Solar Distillation. The paper is published in the proceedings of the seminar (Page No. 104 to 106).
  • Attended a National Level Conference on “Solar Energy and its Applications” at Maharani’s ScienceCollege for Women, Bangalore and presented a paper on Solar Distillation. The paper is published in the proceeding of the seminar (page no. 53-58) (certificates and copy of proceedings are enclosed).

iii)Has the progress been according to original plan of work and towards achieving the objective, if not, state reasons.

Yes

iv)Please indicate the difficulties, if any, experienced in implementing the project

  • The main difficulty we come across is by using only solar still the water is not going to evaporate, because that amount of temperature is not sufficient. To overcome this difficulty three parallel plate collectors are used. The water is preheated by three plates and collected in solar still basin for further evaporation.

v)If project has not been completed, please indicate the approximate time by which it is likely to be completed. A summary of the work done for the period (Annual basis) may please be sent to the Commission on a separate sheet

Not applicable

vi)If the project has been completed, please enclose a summary of the findings of the study. Two bound copies of the final report of work done may also be sent to the commission

Two bound copies are enclosed

vii)Any other information which would help in evaluation of work done on the project. At the completion of the project, the first report should indicate the output, such as (a) Manpower trained (b) Ph.D awarded (c) Publication of results (d) Other impact, if any

  3. The applications of non-conventional energy like solar energy is studied.
  4. To create the awareness in general publics and students in using pure and safe drinking water is fulfilled.
  5. To create the awareness among publics and students to motivate them to go for solar energy and inform people to avail the financial subsidy provided by Government and Co-operative banks is fulfilled.
  6. Summary of the findings :

In the present research work the solar distilled unit is successfully installed in college premises. This unit is giving approximately about 80 ltrs of pure and safe drinking water per day in summer season. During rainy season the solar still may be altered for rain water collection if needed.

Solar distillation is applicable in all areas with sunlight. They are light weight, durable with no moving parts and can be easily placed or fixed on roof tops or on ground, where maximum sunlight falls.

  1. Contribution to the society :

1)Awareness given to the public and students about the renewable sources of energy like solar energy.

2)Awareness given to publics and students to use pure and safe water for drinking.

3)Awareness given to the public and students to motivate them to go for solar energy utilization and informed people to aware the financial subsidy provided by government and co-operative banks.
