Executive Committee Updates

President/Vice President Report: Laura Pestorius/ Julie Welch

  • A Nominating committee has been formed to facilitate the identification of PTA officer candidates for the 2014-2015 school year. Lisa Crill, Hope Paes, and Nancy Gurgiolo have volunteered to be on the committee.
  • All PTA positions are available for next year.
  • Information has been obtained about the Ohio PTA Memorial Scholarship Program. Three programs are offered: Academic Scholarship for students enrolled in a four year academic degree program; Technical scholarship for students enrolled in a two or three year approved technical, vocational, and associate degree program; and Special Education for students identified with a current IEP (Individual Education Plan) entering approved technical, vocational, associate degree or a four-year academic program. The Ohio PTA handles the application and selection process. The Annehurst PTA can offer a minimum $500.00 scholarship to a student who attended Annehurst.
  • Ms.Lint (2nd grade) and Ms.Irvin (4th grade) are organizing a pancake breakfast. Tentative date is April 12 and will coincide with the AVRA Easter Egg Hunt held at the school.
  • Date change: The May PTA meeting has been moved to 5/6; the meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria

Treasurer Report: Jennifer Koval

  • Since the last report, some staff grants were paid out, field trip expenses were paid and some supplies for the father/daughter dance were purchased.
  • A question was raised about spending some of the funds for staff resources (classroom and curriculum aids). Mr.Rahm responded that resources and needs are being assessed this year. The PTA may want to include a line item for staff resources/professional development above and beyond the current staff grant allowance in future budgets. If a staff member is interested in additional funds for the current year, a request should be brought to the PTA as new business and a vote will be held at that time, if appropriate.

Secretary Report: Lisa Fyock

  • Fundraiser / Meal Nights Out
  • Dave & Busters is scheduled for March 18.

Principal Update

Principal: Mr. Rahm

  • GEM committee has chosen a winner and submitted the nomination to the ELC. Five nominations were received. The winner will be announced on 3/13 and will be recognized at an award ceremony. All nominees from Annehurst will be recognized within the building.
  • A grant request for 110’ of fencing was submitted to Lowe’s but was denied. We received a quote from the district for less than $2,000. The PTA has already budgeted $2,000 for capital improvements. We will move forward with the fencing per the district quote. The fence will run from the concrete sidewalk along the south parking lot along the grass and will end at the dumpsters.
  • Thursday, February 6 was the mid-quarter Renaissance celebration. The quarterly celebration will be 3/11. The Columbus Zoo will be presenting a one-hour show complete with live animals. Gift cards will also be given out.
  • The district conducted a survey of the lunch room and may possibly be constructing a wall which will separate the serving area from the eating area. The serving area will be reconfigured to include equipment necessary to bring the school up to code for food service. It is likely the entire room will be repainted at the district’s expense.
  • From 3/3 to 3/14, all second graders will be taking the Terra Nova standardized achievement test. One test will be administered each day.
  • The district has implemented new volunteer levels. Level one is designated when a volunteer does not have any unsupervised contact with access to students. Level two is designated when a volunteer may have unsupervised contact with access to student(s) on or off campus. Level two requires a BCI and FBI background check at the expense of the volunteer. ALL volunteers must read and sign the volunteer statement and disclosure regarding Consumer Report. More information can be obtained on the district web site.
  • Across the district, Annehurst has the most Level One volunteers.
  • Next year, 15 teachers from the district will be selected to participate in a pilot program to help make decisions about what technology to purchase and implement in the classroom, district-wide.
  • Mr.Rahm spoke at length about the focus of Annehurst being to help students develop the skill set necessary to succeed in the 21st century workforce.
  • Upcoming February, March, and April Dates:
