Annual General Meeting – Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Welcome & Call to Order: 7:02 pm by Rose Stevenson-Davidson, President
Introduction of all Present: 30 people in attendance, who introduced themselves, stating name & who they were representing, if anyone. Regrets were noted from 4 board members (Blair MacMurtery, Cathy Whynot, Greg White, Dan Calnan).
Minutes of the last Annual General Meeting (October 25, 2012): Read by Phyllis Crowe, noting there will be one correction to the spelling of “Stevenson-Davidson”. Moved Angela Pelton/Seconded Dwight Whynot to approve the minutes as read, with one correction as noted. Motion carried.
Executive Reports:
President’s Report: read by Rose Stevenson-Davidson
Treasurer’s Report: presented by Greg Miller. Net profit of $1,220.
Question from Mike Mitchell, AVR, re clarification on Leadership Competition. Clarified by Greg.
Question from Lloyd Smith, ABF Crier, re bands in the Grand Street Parade. Answer: There are a similar number of bands from the previous year, and they are charging more for their attendance.
Question from Lloyd Smith re government sources for funding. Noted that it would be interesting to know what other festivals receive through grants & other programs.
Secretary’s Report: read by Phyllis Crowe
Kind comments noted from Lloyd Smith re prompt & pleasant atmosphere in office this year.
Motion to Approve Executive Reports: Moved David Cunningham/Seconded Lindsay Young. Motion carried.
Election of Officers & Directors: Proposed slate of officers was presented by the Nominating Committee, followed by three calls for nominations from the floor. Moved Lisa Mitton/seconded Micha Saade to approve the Board of Directors as presented. Motion carried.

Community Liaison: Read by Lindsay Young. Lindsay also noted that one of her favourite tasks in 2013 was a presentation to a church group on ABF history, which was very well received, and she is looking forward to more of these in 2014.
Cultural: Written report not available. Rose gave a brief overview of the Cultural Director’s tasks for 2013, which included work with Dan D Apple and setting up the GSP Reviewing Stand.
Publicity: Read by Dwight on behalf of Cathy Whynot & Dwight Whynot.
Motion to Adopt the Committee Reports as presented: Moved Al Simpson/Seconded Angela Pelton. Motion carried.
New Business:
-2015 Festival Theme: Rose Stevenson-Davidson noted that the themes for each year’s Apple Blossom Festival are traditionally picked by the ABF Board and announced each year at Coronation, for the following year. This year the public will be asked for suggestions via the website and Facebook, with the intention that the public will choose the ABF themes.
-2018 Festival Dates: Moved Betty Jean Tupper/Seconded Gary Long to hold the 2018 Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival from May 30 through June 4. Motion carried.
-Raffle Draw:
- 1st prize: Nintendo WiiU Delux, Set won by Morgan Whynot
- 2nd prize: Nintendo 3DS XL Set, won by Sam & Morgan Whynot
- 3rd prize: 2 ABF mugs & tickets to Coronation & Reviewing Stand, won by Richard Pick
Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to Nintendo for donating the top two prizes.
