ANNAPOLIS LANDING MARINA

SEVERE WEATHER AND HURRICANE EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN

The intent of this plan is to alert Annapolis Landing Marina slipholders of the need for preparation, and to outline your responsibilities in the event of a weather related emergency. It is our hope that this information will not be needed, but should the need arise; your total cooperation is imperative to minimize the property damage that can occur.

This plan will go into effect when NOAA issues a watch for sustained gale force winds (30 mph or greater),meaning that such winds are predicted to occur within 48 hours.

REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBE FOR THE CARE AND PROTECTION OF YOUR BOAT AND ARE RESPONSIBLE TO SEE THAT IT DOES NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO ANY OTHER BOAT OR THE PROPERTY OF THIS OR ANY OTHER MARINA. THIS MAY REQUIRE REMOVAL OF YOUR BOAT TO A SAFER HARBOR.

ALSO, REMEMBER THAT MARINA STAFF WILL BE SECURING AND PROTECTING MARINA PROPERTY AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SECURE YOUR BOAT.

Here are some things that you, as a vessel owner, should do to prepare. You are responsible to take reasonable and prudent measures to assure your vessel does not damage others. Please note Item #7 in Dockage Agreement.

  1. Verify your insurance policy for storm coverage
  2. Have enough lines on board early so that, if the storm notice is given, you will have time to double all your moorings, as well as forward and aft spring lines on both sides of vessel. Tie only to pilings, not to dock cleats.
  3. Have some small ¼” line to secure biminis, sail covers, roller furlings, antennae, dinghies, etc. NO LESS THAN 4 WRAPS WITH ROLLER FURLING SHEET. In the event that hurricane force winds are predicted, all canvas should be removed and stowed below.
  4. Make sure all bilge pumps are in good working order and bilges are clean.
  5. Load house batteries to make sure they will last.
  6. Have extra fenders on board and make sure fenders that are hung will work during varying tides.
  7. Make sure cockpit drains are free and clear.
  8. Stow all cushions and non secured deck items.
  9. Secure all dinghies with ropes in the dinghy racks.
  10. If you live out of town, have a local contact that can check on the vessel if you are unable to do so.

A NOAA weather watch means that the predicted conditions are likely to affect the area within 48 hours. A warning means that the predicted weather is almost certain to affect the area within 24 hours.

Please remember, that it is your responsibility to keep abreast of NOAA weather predictions for the Annapolis area, particularly during hurricane season, July through November. If NOAA issues a hurricane watch, you should make immediate contingent plans to remove your boat from the marina. If NOAA issues a hurricane warning, you should immediately execute your plan to remove your boat even if you may not have heard from us.

We will try to notify you by phone or email of any NOAA watch for gale force or higher sustained winds, but cannot guarantee that we will be able to reach you.

Should NOAA issue a warning of sustained gale force or higher winds, we will notify you by phone or by the best means available to us. At that time, at our discretion, we may issue a mandatory evacuation order for your boat. Should the warning be for hurricane winds, you will be required to immediately remove your boat from the marina to some other location. It is your responsibility to have an alternative place to secure your boat.
