Note: In accordance with the Domestic Animals Act 1994, all cats and dogs over the age of 3 months must be registered and microchipped.

Important information

Emergency after hours service

Call Council on 5422 0333after hours in an emergency, such as a lost or found animal. The service will prioritise calls and any outstanding matters will be dealt with on the next working day.

Pensioners

Holders of eligible pension cards are entitled to a reduction as listed to the left. Please present your card in person at the time of registration. Health care card holders are not entitled to the discount.

Certificate of Registration

Once your registration fee is paid, your receipt will be deemed your certificate of registration. Your current yellow animal registration tag is not valid until payment is made.

Privacy

The personal information collected on this form is in accordance with the Domestic Animals Act 1994. The information will only be disclosed as permitted by law. To view Council’s privacy policy, visit mrsc.vic.gov.au. In the course of rescuing pets, we may need to pass phone numbers onto vets, animal aid shelters or other councils. If you have any concerns about this, contact Council’s Local Laws team. We aim to return your pet/s home quickly and safely.

Replacement registration animal tags

Replacement animal ID markers (tags) can be obtained from any Customer Service Centre at a cost of $7.50per tag. Registration tags must be worn on animals when outside their owner’s premises, pursuant to the Domestic Animals Act 1994.

Documents

To be entitled to a reduced registration fee you must provide proof of sterilisation, microchip implant, membership of approved association, obedience papers, breeding licence, statutory declaration or tax return for proof of working dog status.

Excess animal permits

Permits must be obtained to keep more than two dogs and / or two cats per residential household on land up to 4000 square metres and more than four dogs / four cats on land greater than 4000 square metres.

State Government Levy

Registration fees include the State Government Levy of $3.50 per dog and $2 per cat, which is used primarily to fund responsible pet ownership education programs.

Penalties

Owners of unregistered animals may receive on-the-spot infringements for each animal. Random spot checks will occur after 10 April.

Use of unregistered tags

It is an offence under the Domestic Animals Act 1994 for an owner of an unregistered animal to wear a Council identification tag— infringements can apply.
