Angry Birds Invade Cabaniss - Students will work in pairs to build a shelter with cardboard bricks to protect their pigs from the Angry Birds. Opponents will toss Angry Bird bean bags at each other's shelter to see who can knock out the most pigs. Teamwork and cooperation will be the focus of this club. These skills are essential when working with a partner to build a good shelter within the given amount of time. Grades 1-4 (Brunt/Harmon)

Crazy for Math Club - You get to make crafts, measure, play games, financial literacy, share ideas, and most importantly — you learn! Open to 1st and 2nd grade students. (Nti/Williams)

Computer Science Club (K-2) {Requirement: use of computer lab} Students will create computer programs that will help them learn to collaborate with others, develop problem-solving skills, and persist through difficult tasks. By the end of this course, students create their very own custom game or story that they can share. (Walker)

Creative Writing: Do you love to write? Are you always coming up with funny stories? Join the creative writing club and express your fun and unique ideas through the written word! Learn how to use your imagination and creativity in your writing. We will prepare for UIL competition in creative writing, story- telling, and ready writing. This club is for second, third, and fourth graders. Parent permission for competition is required. (Lethcoe)

Kick to Get Fit - TAE BO for Kids: In this workout, high-energy moves and music shows youngsters that fitness is fun, while providing kids with a cardio "kick." Best of all, TAE BO KICKS shows how to use your body at your own pace to stay fit! If you like to “move and kick to music,” this is the club for you! Grade K-4 (Thompson/Bates)

Building Club: Legos, Tinker Toys, and Blocks - What child doesn’t love to use their imagination to build? Building Club will provide tools that help stimulate and develop spatial intelligence. Grades 1st and 2nd (Spears and N. Jones)

World Traveler Club - We will explore all 7 continents. We will explore a few countries in each continent and how the following things are different from us: the culture, dance, language, how they dress, games they play, and arts and crafts. The students will create arts and crafts and learn different languages while they are in here. Grades Kinder and 1st (H. Jones/Parkerson)

Cheer Club - If you love to yell, motivate, and move then this is the club for you!

At cheer club we learn and practice new skills every week! Some activities and skills include:

These Boots are Made for Walking (Cowboy Walking Club)— Promoting a healthy lifestyle through low-impact exercising. Students will track their progress and build up to walk in local fun runs/5k. (Grades 2-4)- (Aldridge/Ross)

Bejeweled Club - We will make jewelry, frames and other "bejeweled" accessories. We will have a small supply fee of $2 a student to cover supplies: beads, jewels, ribbon, frames, etc. There will be a maximum of 30 students in the club open for grades K-4th. (Simpkins/Garms)

Cup-stackin’ Cowboys Club - Club Sponsor: Ms. Wright & Ms. McBride

Sport stacking (also known as cup stacking or speed stacking) is an individual and team sport that involves stacking specialized plastic cups in specific sequences in as little time as possible. Participants of sport stacking stack cups in pre-determined sequences, competing against the clock or another player. Proponents of the sport say participants learn cooperation, ambidexterity and hand-eye coordination; and scientific research has confirmed these claims. (2nd – 4th)

Drum Club - The Drum Club will be made up of third and fourth graders. The students will learn various styles of drumming from around the world. We will learn pieces from various cultures, which will incorporate some other percussion instruments as well.This is an opportunity to learn and perform special pieces we may not get to during general music class. If you love to move, groove, and make some noise, then we have a place for you! (3rd & 4th grade only, limit is 16.) (Eldridge/Schmidt)

Spanish Club - This club is intended for any student interested in the Spanish language and Culture. The objective for this club is to help students develop an understanding of the Spanish language. We will have many class activities. By the end of the year hopefully the club members may know some basic Spanish by learning in a fun way. Grades 1 and 2 (Martinez/Seeton)

Basic stuff that will be learned:

-Spanish greetings, songs etc.

-Geography of Spanish-speaking countries

-and of course have a FIESTA!!!!!

Memory Keepers Yearbook/Photography Club - Do you love to keep up with what is going on at Cabaniss? Do you like to look at pictures of your school friends and remember the great times you’ve had with them? Do you like to draw or write true stories about special events? Are you creative? Then consider joining the Memory Keepers Club.

We will learn about layout and design and the elements of print media. We will begin with choosing the yearbook theme and developing a plan of what will go on each page. We will write stories, create art and designs and assemble the photographs and stories to create a fabulous memory book for our Cabaniss family to enjoy. (Grades 3-4) (Smith/Wynkoop/Gauthier)

Yoga Club - The yoga club will be a place for stretches, stories, directions, relaxation and overall well-being!

In our group we will learn basic poses for yoga, and some information regarding the benefits of each particular pose. We will practice the breathing techniques that are suggested for total health and mind clearing also.

Mats will be provided; music and leadership will demonstrate and participate in the various poses.

Comfortable clothes are a must so that the participant can easily bend over and try all the poses without being constrained by clothing. (Stabler/Korman) Grades 2-4

Check Mate Cowboys. The Chess Club will be a wonderful opportunity for our Cowboys to use their critical thinking skills to compete is this age old mind game. The students will learn how to use all the pieces effectively, defensive strategies, and how to attack with powerful pieces and even how to use pawns to win games. The club will be a fun experience that will give our students a head start on a game they can play for life. (Mr. Dye) Grades 3 and 4

JUMP IT UP- We will be having lots of fun and learning new skills using jump ropes. For those that do not know how to jump rope, well this club is for you because we’ll try to teach you the skill of jump roping.

Here are a few techniques that we will be doing:

Forward cross, side swing cross, backward swing, two in one rope and two in two ropes. We will practice entering and exiting while the jump rope is turning. There is so much more fun that the JUMP IT UP club will be doing. Come join us and have fun practicing and learning how to jump rope. (Martin/Galvan) K-4

THE Disney Club - Do you want to watch TV at school? Then join my club! Students will get to watch shows from the Disney Channel like Johnny Test, Phineas and Ferb, and Monsters vs. Aliens. After the show is over, we will discuss the different story elements in the show. We will talk about the people in the show, where they were at, the problems they had, and what they did to solve them. Sometimes we will even draw a picture of our favorite scene. Music and Movement Club - Our class incorporates music and movement by using academic as well as popular songs made for children. We will learn about melody, lyrics, and rhythm and some basic dance moves. This will be a fun and creative way to get some exercise by singing and dancing! Kindergarten Only (Nuckolls/Chapman)

GET IN LINE DANCE CLUB is where fitness, fellowship and fun come together in an energizing way for modern line dancing. Did you know that line dancing provides both physical and mental exercise? Line dancing is for everyone – it’s ageless, it doesn’t require a partner, it’s easy to learn and loads of fun for everyone!! Buckaroos Soccer Club – We will practice dribbling, passing, shooting on goal and defense positioning. At certain times, we will play small-side games (3 on 3, 4 on 4).
