"Andrew's Stand"

The June 18 Fiasco

Article 1 Vol. 1 October 2001

I would like to start off this first article by stating that, of course, this article reflects my opinions and does not necessarily represent the views of other SCV members. I only wish to add insight, provoke thought, and relate facts that relate to our continuing fight against all who are ignorant of the truth. I begin my first article on the topic of the SCV's recent move to take the offensive in our heritage battles. I commend all who organized and who planned this. I also commend all those who were able to attend their State protest, but that is the problem. First of all, this offensive stance on our heritage is a start, and I am very glad that someone took a stand and said "thus far and no further." Now we need to correct our mistakes and go back on the offensive. We must not let this be a one-time fluke. The only mistakes I can see deal with planning and organizing. Even though we had members from across the State attend our protest, we only had about fifty. Don't get me wrong, fifty is better than none but we can do a whole lot better if we only had more time. I regretfully could not attend because it was too late to request vacation time from my job. The next time we go on the offensive, we must have more forewarning so that we can gather many more members at the protest. We all know that numbers speak volumes, especially when dealing with politicians such as Lee Warner, Don Siegelman and the media. As we look into the future of taking the offensive, I have always wanted a "big protest" in the sense of something similar to what we did in South Carolina, something with the entire SCV together. The difference in this "big protest" is that we have all the time in the world to plan and organize unlike South Carolina when we had to mobilize at a fast pace. Also, I believe this "big protest" should be an alliance of several heritage groups so that we reach out to more people and get supporters of our heritage who are not members of heritage groups. By reaching out to other organizations and people who aren't a part of a heritage group, we have more numbers and the potential to gain more members. Remember that in numbers comes media coverage and nervous politicians. The final punch in this "grand protest" is its location. I think the biggest way we could wake up our enemies is by marching straight down to the Capitol Building itself in Washington D.C. Think of it, thousands upon thousands of Americans together to say to not only to the bigots in the NAACP, not only to the State politicians, not only to the federal government, but to the entire Union and to the world that we take our stand here, today, and we shall prevail. Truth over ignorance, freedom over the tyranny of the "offended." But as I said previously, we are at a start; I merely suggest these items for future ideas. We must consider these options and act now, not later. I thank you for your time.
