AND SO, THE END IS NEAR…

It is hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of another school year, breaking up next Wednesday.

2015/16 has been a great year for Kelvin Grove, from the numerous school trips our children have enjoyed, the varied sporting activities they have participated in and the countless productions and celebration assemblies they have performed.

We are exceptionally delighted with our Year 6 SATs results this year, as pupils have continued to perform above the national average, at a time when the new curriculum has become more demanding and the tests even harder.

As always, we are very grateful for your support,as we strive to have a diary of events planned throughout the year to welcome parents into school. It has been brilliant to see so many parents attending school performances, fayres, classroom drop ins and parents’ evenings. Our Family Learning continues flourish and we are exceptionally proud of our FAST (Families And School Together) families, 20 families who commited to a weekly 2 ½ hour session for 8 weeks from Key Stage 1.

Looking ahead to September, can I please remind you that there are 2 teacher training days on the first week back, so your child will return to school on Wednsday 7th September. Please don’t forget, as we want even more children than ever to achieve their 100% term award. This term has been our highest to date with over 90 pupils having 100% attendance!

As this will be the final Friday newsletter of the term, we would like to wish all our families and friends of Kelvin Grove, a fantastic summer holiday and we look forward to welcoming you back to school, refreshed in the Autumn Term. For Year 6 pupils, we hope that Kelvin Grove has been a spring board to successfully launch you into your secondary education and the world beyond. Good luck and we shall miss you!

A REMINDER OF OUR SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY

  1. Please, please, please can we have black school shoes for September. Remember coloured trainers are not part of our school uniform and will not be allowed in school!
  1. If your child must have their ears pierced, please do this in the first week of the holidays. They cannot participate in PE or any sports clubs in school if they are wearing ear rings and they will have to be covered up at all times until healed.
  1. Fancy shaved hair styles – great for holidays, NOT FOR SCHOOL. Please ensure any such hairstyles have been removed before returning to school.
  1. And finally, all pupils must have a PE kit, dark shorts/ plain white t-shirt and black plimsolls, in school. PE is a statutory part of the curriculum and physical activitiy is essential for your child’s development. It is always sad to see a number of children who cannot participate in PE lessons because the don’t have any kit!

STARS IN THEIR EYES COMPETITION

Congratulations to everyone involved with the show, especially the performers and Mrs Hovells who organised it with help from others. It was a resounding success and a nice change from last years talent show. The overall winners on the evening were Fiona in the individual category and Grace, Grace & Molly for the group category.

YEAR 6 LEAVERS ASSEMBLY

Our special celebration assembly for our Year 6 leavers will be on Tuesday 19th July at 9:15am. We hope to see as many of you there as possible. The Children have been working on a very special show and don’t forget your tissues!
