160km Royal Challenge: General Safety Guidelines
Areas where cyclists need to take additional care:
From the start at Trim Castle, cyclists proceed out the Dublin Rd – cyclists need to be aware of live traffic and fellow cyclists, stay in the left lane at all times.
Caution must be taken when entering Kilmessan village (12km), cyclists must stop to take the right turn over the bridge.
When approaching Bellinter Cross (20.6km) cyclists must slow down to take right turn across the junction.
At 22.1km cyclists beware of steep uphill climb towards Tara. Cyclists must take care as road is narrow.
When approaching the R147at Ross Cross (28.5km) cyclists must slow down and stop as this is a major road crossing.
At 21.3km cyclists need to take care when turning right off the R147.
At 31.2km cyclists need to slow down as they approach the Y-Junction as this is an uphill right turn
Cyclists are crossing the busy R153Navan-Kenstown Rd. onto the L5053 (39.2km), must take care at this junction.
Compulsory stop at Wiggers Cross 47.6km (crossing N51) cyclists turn right and immediate left.
Water Stop Gormanlough 51.4km, cyclists need to stop at junction and turn right into water stop.
Cyclists must stop when taking right turn at Kilberry Cross (crossing R162) 55km
Cyclists take the R162 for 20km approx.
The Cut Off Point (Crossroads R164 Moynalty-Kingscourt) for cyclists is at 77.5km, cyclists must make it through this point by 11.30am. If not they must take the Moynalty Rd. to join the 100km route.
Cyclists food stop at 98.6km, cyclists left turn into Cormeen C.C.
Cyclists must stop at crossroads (Moynalty-Kingscourt Rd.) R164 (101.5km)
At 106.2km cyclists enter Moynalty and turn right towards Mullagh taking caution crossing on to the R194.
At 117.1km Cyclists MUST STOP at the t-junction which is crossing N3, turn right and then an immediate left on to the L6828.
CyclistsMUST STOPat crossroads 118.9km (Forge Restaurant) as you are going straight through.
At 132km water stop in Kilskyre GAA, cyclists need to be cautious turning right into the facility.
At 135.6km cyclists MUST STOP at this crossroads (Lynch’s Cross) to go straight through onto the R154.
When coming back into Trim town please beware of traffic and pedestrians, proceed with caution.
Cyclists must slow down when approaching Dublin roundabout and beware of traffic.
