An invitation to create your own Interdependence Day program or event

during the month of September 2009…

Dear Friend:

I am writing to ask your organization to formally join forces for Interdependence Day Scranton 2009to strengthen democracy and the culture of interdependence awareness. Our strategy is to dramatically increase the number of organizations that observe Interdependence Day in our community. We are asking you to integrate the culture of interdependence into your club or organization’s main activity during the month of September and throughout the year by reflecting on the concept of interdependence.

Interdependence Day is about promoting understanding across boundaries, and examines issues such as world health and the global environment, constitutions and the rule of law, and the meaning of justice for all. It is a time to reflect on the world community and our interconnectedness.

In 2008 there were several organizations that participated in Interdependence Day Scranton by sponsoring speakers the themes of interdependence and what it means to us as a community. We hope that you will participate this year to promote Interdependence Day by scheduling a speaker or event. We would like to include a listing of your event or speaker in our official Interdependence Day Scranton 2009 program.

Sondra Myers, Founder and Convener of Interdependence Day launched the event in Pennsylvania in September 2003. Kathryn Holod, chairperson of this year’s event, joins me in asking you to assume an active part in this growing global movement to promote interdependence consciousness. During the month of September, please dedicate a specific time during your business meeting in recognition of Interdependence Day to discuss and reflect on ideas such as:

  • How do we depend on each other and the web of life for our survival?
  • How do we define our freedom as citizens of the United States and the world?
  • What are the responsibilities of individuals, businesses, governments and civil society to insure the health and well being of all?
  • What steps can we take to embrace a changing culture while protecting our cultural heritage?
  • How do we create a more collaborative future in which people around the world can enjoy the fruits of democracy?

Please keep us informed about your individual Interdependence Day recognition event by calling emailing so we can include your event on the Interdependence Day Scranton website, as well as the official Interdependence Day Scranton 2009 program. Also, please contact us at your earliest convenience to schedule a speaker through the Interdependence Day Speaker’s Bureau. Let us know how we can be of assistance to you.

Thank youin advance for your participation in this important Interdependence Day recognition event.

Sincerely,

Rosemary Broderick
