Snatcher held: - Khazuri Khas police caught one Shiv Kumar, 19 years, R/o Gali No. 8, Dyal Pur Ext., red handed who indulge in snatching yesterday. According to DCP North East when the complainant, Indu Devi was going along with her husband towards Jeevan Jyoti School, the accused persons riding on m/cycle snatched her chain and tried to flee. She raised an alarm and nabbed Shiv Kumar with the help of her husband and passers-by. But his accomplice managed to escape. The snatched chain was recovered from the possession of Shiv Kumar. Efforts are afoot to arrest the absconding accused. Investigation is in progress.

Public help sought:- Old Delhi Rly Police have sought public help in identifying the body of a male, 20/25 years old, Ht., 5’5”, wheatish complexion, round face, medium built, wearing red shirt and white baniyan, was found on 17/7/2008.

·  AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF TERRORIST OUTFIT ULFA ARRESTED

·  THREATENING LETTERS ADDRESSED TO DIFFERENT POLITICIANS RECOVERED

The team of Special Cell led by Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma under the supervision of Shri Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, ACP has arrested militant of United National Liberation Front (ULFA) Ranjan Bikash Borgohain @ Bikash @ Ramen Barua (aged 51 years ) r/o District Dibrugarh Assam. He is involved in extorting money from Shri Anwar Hussain, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) of Congress-I in Delhi. Many letters addressed to other politicians of various parties on the letterheads of ULFA with the signatures of Hira Sarania, self styled Commander of 709 Battalion, ULFA and & Raju Boruah, self styled Deputy Commandant in Chief of ULFA have been recovered from the possession of the accused.

On 19.07.2008 at about 5 pm, an information was received at P.S. Connaught Place, Delhi that one Ramen Baruah, a militant of banned outfit ULFA has come at the residence of Shri Anwar Hussain, MP at 16-A, Firoz Shah Road Delhi and has demanded Rs. 25 Lakhs as extortion money. The team of Special Cell and P.S. Connaught Place reached at Firoz Shah Road, Delhi and detained Ramen Baruah. Shri Anwar Hussain, MP stated that the accused Ramen Baruah had come to his residence with a letter of Hira Sarania, self styled Commander, 709 Bn, ULFA and demanded Rs. 25 Lakhs. Shri Anwar Hussain, MP also stated that the accused also visited his residence in March & April 2008 and delivered threatening letters and took Rs. 25,000/- as extortion money. On the basis of contents of complaint a case under the appropriate sections of law was registered at Police Station Special Cell, Lodhi Colony, New Delhi.

Ranjan Bikash Borgohain @ Bikash @ Ramen Barua was subjected to sustained interrogation he disclosed that ULFA militants Pradeep Bhatta and Romen Duara motivated him to join ULFA in the year 1985. Initially he was tasked to motivate youth to join ULFA and he successfully recruited over 50 militants. He was then assigned the task of extorting money from various people for the ULFA outfit. In later part of 2006, he came close to Hira Sarania, self styled Commander of 709 Bn ULFA. Hira Sarania appointed his emissary and tasked him extorting money from politicians. He was also assigned a rank in Political wing of ULFA. He was also entrusted for logistic support for the militants of ULFA. He transported militants from one location to another.

In the month of March 2008, on the directions of Hira Sarania, he arrived in capital and met with Shri Anwar Hussain, MP from Dhubri and handed over him the threatening letter. Shri Anwar Hussain refused to comply with directions and did not give the protection money. Again in April 08, the accused arrived in Delhi with new threatening letter of Hira Sarania and demanded extortion money. Shri Anwar Hussain arranged Rs. 25,000/- and gave it to Ranjan Bikash Borgohain. On 19.07.08, the Ranjan reached the residence of Shri Anwar Hussain and again demanded Rs. 25 Lakhs as protection money but was apprehended by the police team.

In the recent letter, it was claimed that the UNLF is having unofficial talks with the Central Government and the outfit requires money for visits to Kolkata and other places to attend the meetings. In this letter Hira Sarania has also assured the he would not take any protection money from the MP for the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections. Hira has also informed the MP, that he would be going on deputation to the Central Committee of ULFA for some time from the 709 Battalion and Bhaskar Das would be the temporary Commander of the same Battalion.

Further investigation is in progress.
