AMT Expands Shows, Seating for Christmas Spectacular

ELKINS, W.Va. – American Mountain Theater’s annual Christmas Spectacular kicks off Friday, Nov. 26, with more seats and more show dates than ever before.

The 2010 edition of AMT’s magical celebration includes 22 shows through Sunday, Dec. 19, including 4 additional shows that have been added to the schedule to accommodate the ever growing demand. Evening shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, with 2 p.m. matinees each Saturday and Sunday.

The Branson-style show features the same talented cast that performs the Premier Two-Hour and History of Music shows during the year, with the spirit of Christmas pervading the entire experience.

“Our show is eclectic, with traditional sacred songs along with secular, country and popular Christmas music, all intended to glorify the spirit of the season and birth of Jesus while entertaining at the same time,” said Kenny Sexton, AMT president and producer. “We have created a special holiday show that has really resonated with our visitors. This year’s edition will be the biggest and best ever.”

As always, AMT promises a few surprises. One of which will be guest performances on many dates by Elkins native and brilliant trumpet player, Marshall Scott. Marshall is currently a professor at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green where he teaches trumpet and directs the jazz band. He is also the uncle of AMT sound engineer Matthew Scott.

In addition to the extra performances, AMT has expanded the theater’s capacity to more than 600 for the Christmas shows. People still are encouraged to reserve their seats soon, because tour operators, groups and office Christmas parties are filling the calendar quickly. “Even with the additional shows and additional capacity, we anticipate most of these performances to sell out,” said Sexton.

Special dinner-and-show packages or entire weekend itineraries are available for those who want to spend time in the mountains during the holidays.

In addition to the music for which AMT is well-known, the Christmas Spectacular includes skits and cast conversations with the same sacred theme.

“Be part of this joyful celebration as we praise Him and give thanks for the one holy night long ago, in a stable in Bethlehem,” Sexton said. “If you love Christmas, you’ll love American Mountain Theater’s Christmas Spectacular.”
