HISTORY OF THE AMES UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

There are several scholarships available from Ames UMC, for students who are Harford County, Maryland high school graduates; and who are members of Ames.

Students must be accepted at an accredited four year institution of higher education, to qualify for a scholarship. Students who matriculate at two-year colleges or career schools may also qualify for scholarships.

Ames UMC Scholarship Committee reviews applications, and interviews and selects all recipients of Ames Scholarship funds. The motto of the Ames Scholarship Committee is, “Supporting Christian Scholars Is an Investment in the Future.”

2018 ELIGIBILITYREQUIREMENTS AND CONSIDERATIONS

To apply for this scholarship, students must:

  1. Be a resident of Harford County, Maryland.
  1. Be an active member of a church or place of worship. Candidate must have actively participated in programs available at /or sponsored by church or place of worship for 12 months prior to applying.
  1. Submit name of church or place or worship, name of clergyperson, phone number and e-mail address (if e-mail address is available).
  1. Have received and submitted an acceptance letter in good standing from an accredited institute of higher learning.
  1. Be entering the first year at an accredited institute of higher education.
  1. Have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher at the time of application.
  1. Submit three reference letters. One from a high school teacher, one from community person, and one from a member of church or place of worship.
  1. Submit evidence of active community services.
  1. Submit a Student Statement/Essay (see application).
  1. Submit a High School transcript.
  1. Be able to attend an interview by the Ames Scholarship Committee if selected as a finalist.

Applications must be postmarked by May 1, 2018. All incomplete and late received applications will be rejected and returned to the applicant with no further action taken for considerations by the Scholarship Committee. Please mail completed applications and corresponding documents to:
