POSITION TITLE:Assistant Director, Research

POSITIONSUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Research will assist the staff in serving the research and evaluation needs of the Foundation. Duties include developing and guiding new analyses of Legacy youth and adult data, producing reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts that will contribute to the tobacco control literature, and managing contract research portfolios. The Assistant Director is responsible for managing a staff of approximately three, including two master's-level Research Associates and a Research Assistant. Additional duties include assisting the two Directors and the Senior Vice President.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist the staff in serving the research and evaluation needs of the Foundation; participate in grant proposal development activities; develop and guide new analyses of Legacy data, including development of analytic plans and interpretation of results; produce reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts; manage contract research activities;

Assist two Directors and the Senior Vice President of the department in the design and implementation of evaluation studies, including survey instrument development;

Communicate research and evaluation findings to various audiences from a range of backgrounds, including tobacco control researchers, marketing experts, and policymakers; present research findings on behalf of the Foundation at major conferences, press events, and to scientific and lay audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, EdD) in a health behavior-related discipline such as health education, psychology, health communication, economics, health policy or epidemiology OR have a master's degree and 5+ years of experience working in research and evaluation, including management experience. The candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills, a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects across interdisciplinary teams and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Quantitative research methodology experience is a must; experience in tobacco control is desirable, as is experience in monitoring and analyzing online social media.
