Academic Requirements

All students seeking the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Credential and/or a
Minor in Nonprofit Administration program must take:

Political Science 466: Nonprofit Administration and Public Service and

Political Science 467: Advanced Nonprofit Administration

Students must also do a 300-hour internship sometime after completion of PSCI 466. Students seeking only the national credential have the option of taking the internship for credit or no credit. Students seeking the minor must take the internship for 3 credits. Students performing the internship for credit may receive credit through their major department, the political science department, or the Davidson Honors College. All internships must be approved by the campus program director who will perform site visits and help to supervise all student interns regardless of where they receive credit from.
In addition to PSCI 466, PSCI 467, and the internship, students must take a minimum of four courses (12 credits) listed below to fulfill additional competency requirements. Courses must be selected from at least four of the following six areas. Some of these courses have pre-requisitesthat may not be listed here and/or require specific majors. It is the student’s responsibility to investigate these requirements prior to registering for the course.

All students who wish to seek the professional credential must apply to participate in the certification process through the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Campus Director. Students may complete the credential requirements with post-baccalaureate or graduate status.
