Summary:
The Kyiv office of American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS (American Councils) is currently seeking a proactiveand reliable candidate to fill its EducationUSA Senior Adviser position. Primary responsibility is to manage the EducationUSA Center in Kyiv, actively promote U.S. higher education by offering accurate, comprehensive, and current information about educational opportunities in the U.S. and information on how to best access those opportunities. This position carries out daily management of advising center to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services to the public seeks out and develops innovative tools to promote U.S. higher education, and reaches out to non-traditional audiences. The position will liaise with U.S. institutions of higher education to facilitate recruitment and admission of Ukrainian students and increase student mobility. The Senior Adviser is responsible for management and reporting of the EducationUSA Advising Center and reports to the American Councils Country Director. The Senior Advisor will also receive work direction from the EducationUSA Program Manager based in Washington, DC, the Regional Education Advising Coordinator, and the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy. This is a full-time 40-hours a week position.
Responsibilities:
I. ADMINISTRATION
- Supervise, train and mentor EducationUSA advising staff in Kyiv (Advisor, Junior Adviser) and volunteers;
- Closely cooperate with Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine forimplementation of special projects under PAS grants;
- Ensure upkeep of Center Reporting System and regular tracking of advising statistics;
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and special reports for EducationUSA, American Councils and the U.S. Embassy on the activities of the advising center;
- Make monthly and annual financial projections for advising center operations and track programmatic expenses;
- Prepare narrative grant reports for the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.
II. EDUCATIONAL ADVISING
- Manage a resource center and online advising resources for those interested in higher education opportunities in the U.S.;
- Advise on higher education opportunities in the U.S. to students, parents, and professionals via group lectures, online advising, and special programs;
- Manage advising programs such as EducationUSA Competitive CollegeClub; conversation groups on topics relevant to life and study in the U.S.; test preparation study groups; participant groups for ECA-supported MOOC(s); guestlectures, both in person and online (Embassy speakers, Fulbright scholars, Peace Corps Volunteers, Ukrainian alumni of U.S. institutions, U.S. higher education representatives, Ukrainians currently studying in the U.S., etc.);
- Perform public relations tasks including educational exhibitions, contacts with massmedia and other international and local organizations;
- Communicate with Ukrainian non-profit organizations and educational institutions throughout Ukraine concerning presentations and information sessions for students, alumni and researchers;
- Schedule and conduct weekly and special lectures and presentations about highereducation opportunities in the U.S at America House and online. Maintain live streaming of all the public events;
- Oversee Opportunity Program, including review of applications, updating databases, advising awardees, overseeing curriculum implementation, and promoting the program.
III. LEADERSHIP AND COORDINATION
- Plan all regular and special EducationUSA events at America House and other locations on a monthly basis. Coordinate with guest speakers, as appropriate;
- Plan and implement all key annual EducationUSA events, such as U.S. Education Fair, International Education Week, Alumni Fair, Pre-departure Orientation, etc.;
- Coordinate U.S. colleges and universities visits;
- Oversee all-Ukraine EducationUSA web and social media sites (Facebook, VK, Twitter, etc);
- Maintain regular communication with regional EducationUSA Advising Centers, coordinating outreach activities for efficiency and thoroughness;
- Manage/maintain a “friends of advising” network throughout Ukraine, engaging alumni of U.S. higher education, Peace Corps Volunteers, Fulbright English Teaching Assistants and Scholars, etc. for information dissemination about EducationUSA and U.S. higher education opportunities;
- Organize and conduct training programs and workshops for staff and educationalcenters representatives all over Ukraine, working with other U.S. Embassy-supported public access centers (Window on America centers, LEAP centers, etc), and other “friends of advising” throughout Ukraine;
- Advice and support U.S.-educated Ukrainian Alumni Association, encompassing allUkrainians who have studied in the U.S., and assist with the creation of engaging activities and programs for the members;
- Maintain regular communication with America House, Peace Corps, English language schools, Fulbright, USG Programs, and other relevant organizations for advertising events, services and resources.
Qualifications:
- Ukrainian citizenship required.
- Master’s degree or equivalent in International Education, Educational Administration, Communications or relevant field.
- Three years experience in educational advising required.
- Alumna/us of a U.S. college/university required.
- Verbal and written fluency in English and Ukrainian. Fluency in Russian is a plus.
- Strong cross-cultural and written and verbal communication skills.
- At least three years experience in planning conferences, workshops, fairs, and other outreach events required.
- Work experience involving multiple task prioritization required.
- Knowledge of U.S. higher education admissions, financial aid, international student services required.
- Knowledge of Ukrainian secondary and higher education systems required.
- Strong public speaking skills.
- Strong computer, web and social media skills.
- Ability to forge and develop connections and work cooperatively with partners and stakeholders from various sectors including higher education communities, government, and private companies.
