British International School of Creative Excellence

/ An ‘all through’ school for pupils aged from 3– 19 located in the London Borough of Hackney. The school will specialise in performing arts where the arts is embedded in the culture of each child’s learning experience.BISCE will educate and cultivate talent, champion diversity as Hackney’s original multi-cultural performing arts specialist free school and aspire to deliver excellence throughout the entire curriculum. The proposal is being led by a performing arts specialist who already runs extra-curricular services in the borough which focus on the arts.
Hoe Valley Free School

/ The proposers for Hoe Valley Free School are parents from the local community and hope to drive up standards and offer genuine choice in Woking with a new 11-19 mainstream, secondary school. Hoe Valley free School will be built around four cornerstones: independent thinking, personalised learning, personal responsibility and pupil well-being. At the heart of the Hoe Valley ethos is a desire to ensure positive outcomes for all their pupils and all Hoe Valley children will be given the opportunity to discover their own passions and strengths.
The Green School for Boys

/ A Church of England school for boys aged 11-18 in Hounslow, an area with a shortage of secondary school places. It will be a brother school for the outstanding (Ofsted Sept 2011) Green School (a girls-only school), whose Head teacher, is the lead proposer in the application, together with the London Diocesan Board of Schools. The two schools will work together as part of a Multi-Academy Trust to provide some of the benefits of co-educational education while maintaining distinct identities as single-sex schools.
St Anne’s Free School for Girls

/ An inclusive, 11-16 multi-faith school for girls in Luton aimed at empowering women and supporting girls flourish and raise their aspirations. The proposal comes from a teacher-led group. The school would promote the core values of respect, acceptance, love and peace through the focus of spirituality. The curriculum on offer will be broad and time will be also dedicated to developing pupils’ interpersonal skills and other soft skills, as well as to projects and workshops on inter-faith interaction.
St George’s CE Primary School

/ A Christian ethos primary school located in Hanworth, Hounslow. The school aims to improve outcomes for vulnerable young people in a very deprived community and meet a desperate need for new school places in the borough. The proposal is being sponsored by the local St George's church, which has a long history of working in the community, and is supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools, which has set uo several Free Schools before.
Ealing Fields Free School
/ Promoted by members of the local community, Ealing Fields Free School will be a secondary school, which aims to achieve outstanding academic, social and emotional outcomes for its pupils. The curriculum will be focussed on enabling pupils to achieve the English Baccalaureate with a strong emphasis on extra-curricular activities and enabling pupils to obtain the skills needed to succeed in a global jobs market.
Bahu Academy - East Birmingham / The proposers for 'Bahu Academy - East Birmingham' are a group of local educationalists and professionals who want to set up a 4-19 through school for the residents of East Birmingham. Giving local families the option to choose a first class single school for all their children's educational needs, the sole purpose of the school will be to raise educational standards for all students and families in the catchment area.
Oldknow Academy

/ A group of senior leaders and teachers from outstanding Junior School, Oldknow Academy in Birmingham are seeking to set up an 11-16 Secondary Free School committed to serving its community. They hope to build on the success of their current provision to reach a wider cohort of pupils, with a curriculum built on academic achievement and high aspirations for all pupils, no matter what their starting points. They will be working with Park View Secondary School to develop this project.
Capital City Academy: Capital Primary

/ A primary school in Brent, London. Capital City Academy is good secondary academy which is looking to add a primary provision as a response to the lack of places and a need for an Art and Sport specialism school in the area. Capital City Primary aims to provide an education which benefits from outstanding opportunities in Arts and Sport and develops well rounded young people who display the values of determination, integrity, curiosity and empathy. Learners will be healthy and happy and proficient in literacy and numeracy to enable them to be successful young learners ready for the secondary curriculum.
The Sylvan School
/ A primary school on the Isle of Wight set up by a community group. The school will use a child-led approach in KS1 and education will be grounded in real experience with children spending half of their time outside of the classroom, using resources from all over the Island.
Hunsley Primary School

/ An existing outstanding secondary academy looking to establish a primary Free School in the East Riding of Yorkshire. They are working with the National Science Learning Centre in York to design their curriculum. The primary school will specialise in science and mathematics to focus teaching and learning around enquiry, challenge and problem-solving across the entire curriculum.
Crystal Palace Primary School / A community project, led by local parents and professionals, to redress the acute shortage of primary school places in the Crystal Palace locality. Pupils will benefit from high aspiration and educational standards, with a curriculum based on developing curiosity, determination, enthusiasm, willpower and other character traits that have been shown to underpin success in school and beyond.
West Newcastle Academy

/ A primary school which will serve an extremely deprived part of Newcastle. The school aims to engage local parents in their children’s learning by using the ‘forest school’ model in early years. Promoted by a group made up of local charities and head teachers, which has been approved to open a Free School with a similar model in September 2013.
Herts International Christian School / Herts International Christian School is an all through(age 4-16) Christian faith school with a specialism in languages in Welwyn Garden City. It is looking to meet the needs of the rapidly growing local population, an increasing number of children with English as an additional language and those at risk of educational disadvantage. The application to establish a Free School is being put together by Salvation for the Nations International Churches and their team includes teachers, business and charity professionals, and the Senior Pastor of SFTN.
Villages Free School

/ VFS will be an outstanding secondary school for the children of Bramley, Shalford, Wonersh, Shamley Green, Chilworth, Blackheath and immediate surrounding areas, in response to a shortage of places and choice for parents in the area.VFS is being set up in response to the increasing child population and soon to be shortage of secondary school places. It will also provide a real solution to the lack of choice of state secondary schools that parents have due to the location of living in the villages.
Kennedy Academy

/ A teacher-led Montessori primary proposal responding to a shortage of places in the area and the demand for a Montessori primary from the area's 10 Montessori nurseries. It will be based in Thurrock, Essex.
Langley Academy Primary

/ A two-form entry primary school, which will help to meet a desperate need for new school places in the area. The curriculum will help to prepare pupils for entry into Langley Academy, an existing secondary sponsored Academy which is sponsoring the proposal.
Citizen School
/ An all-through (incl. 6th form) Free School in south-east London, where there currently is a shortage of places and attainment needs to improve at both primary and secondary levels. The school is being set up by a group of teachers and community organisers looking to engage young people in democratic activities and engage with the community to make streets safer
Jefferys Education Trust

/ An all-through Free School in a deprived area of Southampton, proposed by two existing Multi Academy Trusts working on opposite sides of the city . They are concerned about the lack of good schools in the area and are looking to establish a school with strong links to the city's maritime businesses and develop a locally based curriculum.
Wellingborough STEM Free School

/ An all through (4 - 16) school located in a deprived area of Northamptonshire. The school will focus on STEM and work with local employers to develop opportunities for work experience. It is proposed by Tresham College who have recently delivered a UTC bid and local teachers.
Bilingual Primary School

/ A primary school in Southwark which will teach pupils in both Spanish and English. The school is being proposed by the founders of the Brighton Bilingual Free School, which opened in 2012, and will follow their existing model, which is already making a huge difference to pupils language skills.
Streatham Arts School

/ A small 4 - 16 independent school in Crosby, North Liverpool specialising in a creative arts curriculum. They have been approached by Sefton Local Authority seeking additional school places in the area and are now working with them to develop the Free School proposal.
Akaal Primary School / A Sikh designated primary school in Derby with a focus on raising literacy and aspiration. The group is made up for parents, teachers and community members who see a need for high quality places within their area.
East Reading Schools Trust / A community project, led by local parents, teachers and professionals, to create a community secondary school in East Reading. The school will have a focus on project based learning.
Luton Girls Academy / A secondary single sex school in Luton. Luton Girls Academy aims to develop all students as academic, entrepreneurial and confident young women who will have the right skills and character traits to be successful in higher education, as entrepreneurs and members of a talented workforce. They will focus on entrepreneurship and promoting academic excellence
Christian Life Community School / A Christian ethos primary school in deprived area of Greenwich. The school will use specialist teachers in English, Maths and Science in order to raise attainment and its curriculum will have an international focus in order to reflect the diversity of its pupils. Promoted by a group made up of local parents and teachers.
Faith and Community School Ltd / A community group in Enfield responding to a shortage of places and looking to increase parental choice by setting up an Islamic faith school in the area, which will have strong links with local Christian and Jewish schools.
Genesis Primary Academy / A teacher-led proposal for a small primary school in a deprived area of Cosnett, responding to parental demand and a shortage of places in the area and proposing a creative, enquiry-based curriculum.
Tower Science Academy

/ A mainstream primary school in Tower Hamlets, being driven by a community group based in the area. The school will specialise in Science, as the group have identified an attainment gap in this area when compared to English and Maths. The school will also have an Islamic ethos underpinning the culture and values of the school.
Elements / A group of senior leaders and teachers from the Wellspring Academy Trust responding to a shortage of places in Barnsley through their proposal for a new primary school that will use best practice from their "outstanding" Special school to inform a personalised mainstream curriculum in the Free School.

Birch Wood

/ An all-through special school (4 - 19) in Leicestershire which will provide for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, and autism. The school's approach will focus on pupils’ social and emotional development as well as their academic progress. Proposed by an existing outstanding special school in the area.

Alternative Provision (AP) Free Schools

Diocese of Lincolnshire

/ A Christian ethos 9-13 Alternative Provision school in Lincolnshire. The vision is to create a family centred
school that delivers outstanding education and builds the self-esteem, self-belief and self-confidence of pupils. The Diocese of Lincolnshire currently runs 141 schools.
One in a Million

/ A secondary Alternative Provision school in Bradford. One in a Million currently run an alternative provision which they are looking to convert to a Free School. They will open a mainstream secondary Free School in September 2013. One in a Million AP plans to use sport, arts and enterprise as a means of re-engaging young people who have been permanently excluded from school.
The Orchard AP Free School / Secondary head teachers, Preston College and external vocational providers are working in collaboration with the current provision at the Orchard Programme to establish an AP Free school. The school will work with both KS3 and KS4 pupils on a part time and full time basis to ensure positive outcomes in terms of reintegration, achievement, qualifications and positive destinations at 16.
Walmer Road / The group is linked to two young people’s charities based in Kensington and Chelsea (The Rugby Portobello Trust and P3), which have been providing alternative provision to students aged 14-16 for a number of years. They are now looking to convert to Free School status and expand their provision to post-16 as well. Their Free School will mainly attract pupilswith complexfamily backgrounds andsocial and emotional needs, who are notthriving in mainstream school. As well as offering GCSEs, their curriculum will have an additionalfocus on ‘Work Readiness’.
Wheelbase

/ A current independent school in Nottingham taking referrals from a number of institutions and catering for pupils at risk of exclusion, often with Special Educational Needs. Their focus is on technology and the motor industry and in 2005 and 2009 they won the National Training Awards in the category of Education and Training Providers. The group is looking to convert their independent school to a 14-19 Alternative Provision Free School mainly because the number of young people being referred to them is increasing, but also to be able to expand their educational offer.
Merseyside Academy / A unique middle school – Year 6 to 9 – for boys disaffected with mainstream school and at risk of exclusion. The group is working with Liverpool Hope University's outreach organisation and has experienced AP providers on the team. They anticipate running a small farm alongside a core curriculum aimed at reintegrating pupils back into mainstream schools.
Netherfield Learning Ark
/ An AP provision for KS2 and 3 students in Gedling, Nottinghamshire proposed in response to Primary headteachers being dissatisfied with the constant problems around managed moves. There is a lack of provision in Nottinghamshire for both primary and secondary AP. The group is led by Sharon Jackson who has a long track record of success in the sector and is supported by Adrian Packer of the Everton AP Free School
Romsey Mill

/ A Christian ethos KS4 through KS5 Alternative Provision in Cambridge. Romsey Mill Trust currently provides alternative education packages to local secondary schools and is working with the local authority and headteachers to expand this service to deliver full-time provision. Their vision is to create a learning centre that provides outstanding education and enables pupils to overcome disadvantage and develop personal, social and spiritual well-being.
Hollingsworth AP Free School / A 14 - 18 AP school with a focus on basic skills in English and Maths, Science and ICT within a context of creativity and commitment. They identify a large number of NEETs in the area of Knowlsey they plan to serve and hope to resolve this with a focus on basic skills. The area is one of the most deprived in England. They will have a military ethos is the promotion of universally desirable qualities such as respect, responsibility, courage, honesty and integrity.
Collaborative Schools Ltd
/ A collaboration of 21 schools in Trowbridge, Wiltshire coming together to create an AP that will cater for pupils of all ages and will work with mainstream schools to develop their skills in dealing with challenging behaviour.
Stoke Innovation School

/ An 11-18 AP Free School based in Stoke aimed at re-engaging pupils who have become disaffected with mainstream education or who have become NEET. The school will make innovative use of ICT to differentiate the curriculum for each pupil’s specific learning needs, whilst also developing their social and emotional skills. The school is proposed by a partnership between an existing Academy Trust and a local Special school.
Ideas Foundation Trust

/ An AP school for pupils aged 14-16 who are struggling to achieve their potential in mainstream education. The school will build on a successful pilot programme, which used creative arts and links with creative industries to re-engage these pupils and put them on track for employment or further study. The school is being promoted by The Ideas Foundation - a charity which supports and nurtures creatively gifted young people.
Target Centre / A teacher-led group proposing an aspirational rural community Alternative Provision Free Schoo in Warwickshire, with a school farm at its heart.
