VGLA (Virginia Grade Level Alternative)
What? / GRADE LEVEL STANDARDS (NO CAP)
·  An evidence-based alternative assessment for the SOL tests, where students must demonstrate individual achievement of the grade level content standard
·  May include work samples, audiotapes, videotapes, charts/graph
·  May NOT include anecdotal records and captioned photographs
·  Completed under "testing conditions" - no multiple attempts to complete the same work sample
Who? / Students with disabilities (IEP or 504): No Special Education Students will participate in VGLA.
LEP students:
·  Available in grades 3-8: Reading only
·  Eligibility based on WIDA Composite Score (1.0 - 3.5 for grades 3-5; 1.0-3.3 for grades 6-8)

Who? / Students with disabilities (IEP or 504):
·  Available to:
Ø  Eligible students with disabilities enrolled in courses or those who have passed courses with end-of-course SOL assessments
- EOC Reading, EOC Writing
- Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry
- Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry
- VA/US History, World History I, World History II
** If students previously passed, use standards when student originally tested.**
Ø  Students in grades 9-12 who need grade 8 numeracy/ literacy certification for Modified Standard Diploma
- Grade 8 (Reading)
- Grade 8 (Mathematics)
·  Available with special permission for students with disabilities in grades 3-8 in math and reading (performs on grade level; may have new disability, rapid deterioration of sensory functions, or unique disability that precludes access to SOL test even with accommodations)
·  Eligibility is made on an individual and course-by-course basis
·  Must meet participation criteria:
- Able to demonstrate achievement in grade level content
- Access to SOL test cannot be provided even with accommodations
- Needs alternative method of demonstrating knowledge and skill

VMAST
What? / MODIFIED STANDARDS (2% CAP)
·  An online alternate assessment
·  Research-based supports and simplifications are applied to existing online SOL items
Who? / Students with disabilities (IEP ONLY - NO 504):
·  ONLY available for Algebra I and EOC Reading for students pursuing a standard diploma using credit accommodations. To use VMAST as a credit accommodation, students must:
- Meet all current VMAST eligibility requirements
- Must pass the high school course
- Must score 374 or below on the End-of-Course SOL test after taking the test at least twice
When? / These assessments are given during SOL test administration. Refer to the Testing Calendar for the school to determine the exact date of testing. Students should have ongoing practice, using the practice items and guides available at:

VAAP
What? / ALTERNATE STANDARDS (1% CAP)
·  Teachers select ASOL for History as before (at higher or lower grade level than student enrollment)
·  Teachers select ASOL listed at student's grade of enrollment for Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Science
·  Levels of performance will provide flexibility for instruction and assessment:
Level 1: Student demonstrates ASOL with significant support and modification (manipulatives, pictures, assistive technology) - Highest score point is 2
Level 2: Student partially demonstrates ASOL (reduced number of skills and/or decreased rigor) - Highest score point is 3
Level 3: Student fully demonstrates ASOL - Highest score point is 4
·  May include work samples, audiotapes, videotapes, charts/graph, anecdotal records, captioned photograph
·  May NOT include hand-over-hand instruction
·  Completed under "testing conditions" - no hints, clues, or prompts
·  SEI tags and Content Area Cover Sheet includes content area, ASOL, bullet, level of performance
Who? / Students with disabilities (IEP ONLY - NO 504):
·  Available to eligible students with significant cognitive disabilities for grades 3-8 and 11:
- Grade 3: Reading, Mathematics
- Grade 4: Reading, Mathematics, History
- Grade 5: Reading, Mathematics, Science
- Grade 6: Reading, Mathematics
- Grade 7: Reading, Mathematics, History
- Grade 8: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, History, Science
- Grade 11: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, History, Science
