A Mountain Tour

Whatever your ability, Alta is for you. Alta Ski Area provides Alpine & Nordic skiing, guided snow cat skiing, ski school lessons and programs- and mid-mountain dining; private businesses provide the rest, including lodging, dining, a ski-in coffee hut, helicopter & back country touring, community arts programming, massages and church services. Alta has a worldwide reputation for its powder skiing. Deep powder snow, rugged terrain and spectacular scenery established Alta's fame. Our best-kept secret is the great beginner and intermediate terrain available.

Beginner and intermediate skiers can access Alta via the Albion, Sunnyside and Cecret lifts. Sunnyside, a detachable triple, services a mile long beginner run, originally named Never Sweat, now known as Crooked Mile. The run can make a beginner feel like a "real skier." With three lifts serving this terrain, less experienced skiers are able to enjoy the alpine majesty often lost at many areas where planners place the beginner lifts and tows at the base of the mountain.

Above this beginner area skiers can ride the Sugarloaf detachable quad, which accesses intermediate and advanced terrain. Unloading at the top of Sugarloaf is like stepping out on top of the world. Virtually 360 degrees of scenic views make this a photographer's paradise.

From Sugarloaf, skiers are able to cut back to the Supreme lift or access the front side of Alta. The ride up Supreme is an experience in itself. From the top one can enjoy a panoramic view of Alta and of the beautiful Heber Valley. Down the mountain, challenging intermediate and advanced runs such as So Long, Big Dipper and #9 Express are favorites for many.

On the front side of Alta is the new Collins detachable quad and the Wildcat lift. This area looks like the typical "post card" view of Alta and it provides numerous intermediate and advanced skiing opportunities.

From the top of Collins one can access a variety of intermediate and advanced terrain. Aggies Alley, the Meadow and Corkscrew are intermediate runs from this lift. Advanced runs include Nina's Curve, Schuss Gully and Collins Face. Race Course, Sunspot, Yellow Trail, Greeley Bowl, Lone Pine and Alf's High Rustler, to name a few, are for the expert. Ballroom, Mambo and the Saddle are great intermediate bowls and runs.

Wildcat lift runs to the top of the Peruvian Ridge, accessing primarily advanced terrain. Aggies Alley provides intermediate access off Peruvian Ridge and additional intermediate terrain. From the top of Wildcat, skiers can choose advanced runs down Peruvian Ridge, Punch Bowl, Rock Gully, Wildcat Face and the Westward Ho Area.
