Prom Dress Code Guidelines

Male Attendees

  1. Collared shirts with a coat and tie, or tuxedo. Attendees are expected to wear these garments during the length of the event. T-shirts/ non-collared shirts are not allowed at any time.
  2. Shirts are to be worn at all times.
  3. Shoes must be worn during the entire event.
  4. No hats of any kind.
  5. No sandals

Female Attendees

1. Dresses may not be cut below the bust line. Necklines should maintain modesty, no extreme plunging. A dress that may be acceptable on one person may expose too much on another, depending on body shape and size.

2. Dresses may be backless as long as they are not cut below the waist.

3. Dresses may not have a slit that exceeds mid-thigh. This is fingertip length. (Put your arms straight down your side, and the slit cannot pass your fingertips.)

4. No cutouts of any kind. No midriffs. This includes keyholes.

5. 2-piece dresses MUST overlap at the waist: meaning the top MUST overlap with the skirt waistband.

6. If a strapless or spaghetti is chosen, the student must make sure the dress fits snugly and will not slip down while dancing. Pulling a dress up and “adjusting it” take away from the sophisticated look expected at prom.

7. Shawls or wraps are encouraged, but must NOT cover up inappropriate dresses.

8. No see-through clothing.

9. All dresses must be mid-thigh. This is fingertip length. (Put your arms straight down your side, and the slit cannot pass your fingertips.)

10. Shoes must be worn during the entire event. Flats are okay.

All of the above rules and procedures are applicable for all attendees to the prom.

Personal Conduct

Students attending the prom must:

  1. Understand that participation in prom activities are a privilege and should be valued.
  2. Understand and abide by the rules and regulations that govern all school activities. Respect for others is paramount. This includes respect for the supervisors and staff of the school as well as classmates.
  3. Use appropriate language and refrain from crude or abusive language or gestures when dealing with administrators, supervisors and classmates.
  4. Understand that they may not be under the influence of or in possession of any intoxicating beverage, drugs, narcotic or controlled substance. This applies to all individuals regardless of age. Violation of this rule will result in a home suspension and possible arrest. In addition, parents will be contacted and be required to pick up the child and transport him/her home. Students and parents must understand that the administration reserves the right to request that any student be tested with a breathalyzer as a condition of entry into the dance.
  5. Refrain from disorderly, disruptive or insubordinate behaviors and be responsible for their behavior. Therefore, students who are found in violation of the student code of conduct will face disciplinary consequences. In addition, parents will be contacted and be required to pick up their child and transport him/her home.

6. Understand that once in attendance at the prom students may not leave the location and re-enter the venue.

In the event that an individual does not meet these guidelines set forth by the school administration, that student will be removed from the prom dance.
